Five county teams will take the field in region action as the second half of the 2023 regular season begins this week.

Andalusia at Geneva
Andalusia (6-0, 3-0 4A Region 2) will go for its seventh straight win on the season with a trip to Geneva (2-4, 1-2).

This season’s game will be the 25th all-time matchup between the two schools dating to the 1932 season. The Bulldogs lead the series over the Panthers 18-6.

Both teams come into the contest of non-region wins last week. Andalusia took down Bibb County at home, 27-10, while Geneva dispatched Geneva County on the road, 49-8.

The Bulldogs exploded on offense during last year’s matchup at home and routed the Panthers, 69-19.

Florala vs. Houston County
Florala (4-1, 2-1 1A Region 2) will look to keep its strong start to the year going with a visit from Houston County (2-4, 1-3).

This year’s contest marks the 10th meeting between the two teams since 1984. The Lions have a 5-4 lead in the series, but the Wildcats have won two of the last three outings.

Florala enters the critical region matchup off a hard-fought 20-8 non-region win at Samson last week. Houston County squeaked out a 14-8 home win against Graceville, Florida.

The Wildcats made their long trip worthwhile in 2022 and dealt the Lions a 27-0 shutout.

Pleasant Home vs. Kinston
Pleasant Home (1-4, 0-3 1A Region 2) will square off against Kinston (1-4, 0-3) with both sides looking to snap four-game losing streaks in a Thursday night game.

This will be the 24th matchup between the two teams who have played each other every season since 2000. The Bulldogs hold a slight 12-11 edge over the Eagles.

Both teams will be looking to rebound from tough non-region setbacks at home a week ago. Pleasant Home fell to Zion Chapel, 39-6, and Kinston was on the wrong end of a 41-7 showing with Goshen.

The Bulldogs hosted last year’s game and had no trouble with the Eagles in a 47-13 home win.

Red Level vs. Elba
Red Level (1-4, 1-3 1A Region 2) will face a tough challenge this week and take on undefeated Elba (5-0, 3-0).

The two teams compete against each other for the eighth time on the gridiron. EHS leads the all-time battle of the Tigers against RLS 6-1.

Red Level struggled last time out at home and dropped a non-region game to Bullock County, 46-12. Elba traveled to Dothan and routed Providence Christian with ease, 57-20.

EHS defeated RLS, 42-6, at home in the 2022 contest.

Straughn vs. Houston Academy
Straughn (4-1, 3-0 3A Region 2) will attempt to pass its biggest test to date this season with a home contest against unbeaten Houston Academy (5-0, 3-0).

This year’s game will be the sixth matchup between the two teams since the 2016 season. The Tigers have a 3-2 lead over the Raiders.

Straughn looks to get back in the win column after a 34-21 non-region loss at Ariton a week ago. Houston Academy had a 49-0 home shutout against Abbeville last week.

The Raiders held on for a 33-27 win over the Tigers last season in Dothan.

Opp (2-4) has a bye week.
