All six Covington County football teams will be in action this week with only one school playing at home and the others hitting the road as all six compete in region matchups.

Andalusia at Slocomb
Andalusia (7-0, 4-0 4A Region 2) will travel for the second straight week and visit Slocomb (1-5, 0-4) for the first time ever in a region matchup.

The Bulldogs lead the Red Tops 1-0 after the two teams first met one another on the gridiron last year.

Andalusia had a strong start on offense last week and cruised past Geneva on the road, 40-13. Slocomb was also away from home and fell in an offensive shootout with Dale County, 60-30.

The Bulldogs hosted the 2022 matchup between the two teams and shut out the Red Tops, 49-0.

Florala at McKenzie
Florala (5-1, 3-1 1A Region 2) will bid for its fifth straight win in a crucial region tilt at McKenzie (4-2, 2-2).

The two teams will meet for the 29th time overall dating back to 1941. The Wildcats hold a slight 14-13-1 edge over the Tigers in the series.

Florala overcame a two-touchdown deficit last week and rallied for a home region win over Houston County, 24-14. McKenzie took the road for a non-region contest at J.U. Blacksher and picked up a 38-16 win.

The Wildcats put up big numbers at home during last season’s contest and defeated the Tigers, 72-38.

Opp vs. Daleville
Opp (2-4, 2-2 3A Region 2) will serve as the only county team to host this week in a region clash against Daleville (2-5, 1-4).

This year’s matchup will be the 26th all-time since the two teams first met in the 1982 season. The Bobcats have a 13-12 lead over the Warhawks with three straight victories in the series.

Opp had a bye last week and fell to Rehobeth two weeks ago at home, 39-20. Daleville came up short on the road at Ashford, 50-44.

The Bobcats earned a 33-7 road win over the Warhawks in 2022.

Pleasant Home at Houston County
Pleasant Home (1-5, 0-4 1A Region 2) will head out for a long road trip and visit Houston County (2-5, 1-4) in a region contest.

The two teams first played each other in football during the 2002 season. The Lions have a 4-1 lead in the series after losing that inaugural game to the Eagles 21 years ago.

Pleasant Home dropped a Thursday night game last week to McKenzie at home, 52-7. Houston County held a 14-point lead at Florala but ultimately fell, 24-14.

The Lions earned a 42-21 win over the Eagles on the road last year.

Red Level at Kinston
Red Level (1-5, 1-4 1A Region 2) will look to get back in the win column at Kinston (2-4, 1-3) in a region game this week.

The Tigers hold a 13-11 lead in the series all-time since the first meeting between the teams in 1981, but the Bulldogs have won the last four matchups.

Red Level fell to the current top seed in the region Elba last week, 56-14. Kinston had a big first half and downed Pleasant Home on the road, 52-7.

The Tigers suffered a 35-0 home loss to the Bulldogs in 2022.

Straughn at New Brockton
Straughn (5-1, 4-0 3A Region 2) will take its final road trip of the regular season and face New Brockton (1-5, 1-4) in region play.

The two teams met each other last year for the first time in 23 years. This year sees them battle for the 17th time since 1974 with the Tigers holding a 9-7 lead over the Gamecocks.

Straughn scored a huge upset last week at home and took down undefeated Houston Academy, 35-21. New Brockton traveled to Pike County and fell by an identical 35-21 score.

The Tigers stormed past the Gamecocks in the 2022 matchup at home, 56-7.
