The Opp Police Department is investigating a shooting that occurred near an apartment complex last week.

At approximately 8:48 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 16, Opp Police responded to the Covington Park Apartments on W. Cummings Avenue after receiving a distress call about someone yelling for help in a wooded area behind the apartments.

According to Opp Police, when officers arrived, they found a man lying in the driveway just off Morning Star Drive with gunshot wounds.

The Opp Fire Department and Haynes Ambulance were called to the scene to provide medical assistance, and the victim was air-lifted to a trauma center.

No further information is available as the investigation continues.

The Opp Police Department’s Criminal Investigation Division is investigating with assistance from the State Bureau of Investigation.
