Candyland, other local events will kick off holiday season

Next week will be a busy week in Andalusia as the holiday season gets underway with several events planned all week including the start of the holiday favorite Christmas in Candyland.

The week begins with a holiday concert and tree lighting at LBW Community College on Tuesday, Nov. 28, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Special performances include the LBW Ensemble, Andalusia Elementary School Show Choir, Covington County Choral Company, and the Lower Alabama Community Choir.

The holiday fun continues when the Andalusia Area Chamber of Commerce holds its annual Christmas Parade on Thursday, Nov. 30, beginning at 6 p.m. The theme for this year’s parade is “It’s a Candyland Christmas.”

The first weekend of December will be a busy one with several activities in the community on the schedule.

A ribbon cutting will be held on Friday, Dec. 1, 9 a.m., at the square to officially open the 10th anniversary of Christmas in Candyland. Candyland will be open from 5 to 7 p.m. with a Meet Mickey and Minnie event from 5 to 7 p.m. Live music will begin at 7 p.m. on the Candyland stage at Springdale.

The first full day of Candyland will be Saturday, Dec. 2, from 1 until 9 p.m. Be on the lookout for the Grinch. Meet and greets are scheduled from 1 to 4 p.m. with Santa and 4 to 6 p.m. with Elsa. A Characters in Candyland show is scheduled for 6 p.m.

Candyland will be open Sunday, Dec. 3, from 1 to 5 p.m. A Meet and Greet with Santa is scheduled for 2 to 5 p.m., and a Meet and Greet with Elsa is scheduled for 2 to 4 p.m. The AES Show Choir will perform at 3 p.m. followed by a Characters in Candyland show at 4 p.m.

The First Baptist Church of Andalusia will present its “Evening in Bethlehem” drive-through nativity on Friday, Dec. 1, Saturday, Dec. 2, and Sunday, Dec. 3, from 6 to 8 p.m. nightly. For more information call the church at 334-222-5151.

The Little Britches Rodeo will take place at the Covington Arena on Saturday, Dec. 2, and Sunday, Dec. 3. Admission is free.

The Pilot Club of Andalusia will hold its annual Pancake and Sausage Breakfast on Saturday, Dec. 2, from 5:30 a.m. until noon at the Kiwanis Community Center. Tickets are $10 each for all-you-can-eat per person and are available at the door or CCB Community Bank, Andalusia Chamber, or through any Pilot Club member. The Pilot Club’s annual Tour of Homes event will be Sunday, Dec. 3, from 1 to 4:30 p.m. with five homes on this year’s lineup. Tickets are $15 each and are available at CCB Community Bank or the Andalusia Chamber. Ticket holders will be served refreshments at the Blue Bird Coffee Company.
