Andalusia edged Red Level, 66-56, in a top-ten battle during the second day of Richard Robertson’s 57th Annual Andalusia Christmas Tournament on Thursday, Dec. 14.

The Bulldogs, who served as the visiting team, entered the game ranked tenth in Class 4A of the first state rankings released yesterday. The Tigers came into the contest slotted eighth in Class 1A.

Dominic Williams Jr. gave Red Level a quick 3-0 lead, but Tevin Sigers followed suit and evened the score at 3-3 with 6:04 left in the frame. After Jordan Stallworth converted two free throws, Buddy Griffin buried a three for a 6-5 lead. A three from Tevin Sigers and jumper by Stallworth saw the lead change hands again when the score moved to 10-6. Javen Poindexter forced a 10-10 tie at the 3:17 mark, and Jamari Brown had a bucket for a 12-10 cushion. Andalusia held a 16-12 lead after the first period thanks to four points by Stallworth and two from Nashaun Wilson.

Noah Curry and Tyler Sigers banked threes, while Cadariyus Love added a basket for a 24-12 lead in the second. Williams ended the run with a nifty move to the hoop, and Junior Mayes made a bucket for the Tigers. Curry and Stallworth responded with back-to-back threes for a 30-16 lead at the 4:09 point. Poindexter delivered a dunk before Stallworth had the next five points and stretched the lead to 37-20 with 1:44 left in the half. Mayes then scored on a fast break, but Love, Tyler Sigers, and Stallworth each had a bucket and lifted the Bulldogs to a 43-22 lead at the break.

Red Level came out firing with a 23-point effort in the third. Poindexter notched 17 points in the frame as Williams, Griffin, and Justin Patterson each earned two. Curry and Tevin Sigers posted three each and were followed by Stallworth and Wilson at two apiece. Jaquez McMeans was one-of-two at the line. Poindexter capped his own 10-point swing with a dunk and sliced the deficit to 49-43 at the 1:44 point. Andalusia answered the call with five points and built its lead to 54-45 after three.

Poindexter started the fourth period with a three before McMeans went off the glass for two. Patterson had four of the next six points and trimmed the gap to 58-54 with 4:38 remaining in the game. After Tevin Sigers made two at the line, Poindexter drained a jumper and cut the deficit to 60-56. From there, the Bulldogs took control and avenged their tournament loss to the Tigers last year. McMeans had the only field goal as Stallworth, Curry, and the Sigers twins combined on four free throws.

Stallworth paced Andalusia (5-1) with 23 points, while Curry and Tevin Sigers also contributed double-digit performances with 10 each. Tyler Sigers and Love notched seven apiece in the win.

Poindexter tallied 32 points for Red Level (4-3) and led all scorers in the game. Williams and Patterson followed with seven and six points, respectively. Griffin matched his jersey number at five in the loss.

Both teams take the court on Friday, Dec. 15. The Tigers meet Opp (1-8) at 3 p.m. in a consolation game. The Bulldogs face Straughn (5-5) in the tournament semi-finals at 7:30 p.m.
