Elba-based manufacturer, Dorsey Trailer, announced the promotion of longtime employee Kenneth Brooks to plant manager on Friday, Dec. 15.

Brooks started serving as the interim plant manager in August, and he earned the title of plant manager in November.

“I have been employed with Dorsey for 26 years and have seen and worked with many employees and plant managers,” said Dorsey Trailer president Trey Gary. “Kenneth Brooks is the cream of the crop. If there ever was a story of perseverance and patience, he is it.”

Brooks began working with Dorsey in October 2009 as a welder on the line, but he quickly moved up to line supervisor. After several years of hard work and dedication, he achieved the role of assistant plant manager. Gary said Brooks had been involved with and worked in every department at Dorsey in some way or another throughout his years of employment, and he was learning and gaining knowledge all along the way.

“When his time came to be named plant manager, Kenneth was not only ready but rose to the occasion and excelled,” Gary said.

Joseph Scott, assistant vice president at Dorsey, mentioned that he has worked with numerous individuals over the years at Dorsey, but Kenneth stands out as the brightest and most hardworking employee he has ever encountered.

“He is an extremely loyal employee and has always put Dorsey and its employees ahead of himself,” Scott said.

Brooks also has played a vital role in the engineering department, according to Scott, by helping that department with areas to improve the fit and function of Dorsey trailers. Since being named interim plant manager, he has not only improved all areas of Dorsey’s manufacturing but has also increased the efficiency of building trailers, achieving this at lower man-hours than ever before in the company’s history.

Scott further noted that the Dorsey team has rallied around Brooks, the new plant manager, working together as a cohesive team to implement his ideas and work ethic.

“Kenneth makes it fun to work at Dorsey,” Scott said. “The laughter and jokes we have enjoyed over the years make for some great memories, and I consider myself blessed to not only work with Kenneth but also to have him as a friend. I am excited to see what the future holds with Kenneth Brooks at the helm.”

Gary expressed that Dorsey feels blessed to have Brooks, and the company is excited about what the future holds. He said some big things are happening in 2024, and Brooks will play a pivotal role in implementing new ideas and machinery to the plant floor.

“The future is extremely bright for Dorsey Trailer with Kenneth as our plant manager,” Gary said. “I look forward to watching him grow and lead our employees for many years to come.”

Brooks lives in Enterprise with his wife, Shamika. Together, they have three children, Kardeye, Kameron, and Kenna Brooks.
