Claudia Ezzell Mozingo, 74, passed away on Dec. 5, 2023, surrounded by her loved ones.

Ms. Mozingo was born in Dothan and graduated from Andalusia High School in 1968. She earned her Bachelor’s degree from Judson College and a Master’s from The University of Alabama and was a Special Education teacher in Virginia for 20 years before her retirement in 1997.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Allene Capps Ezzell; her grandparents, Bertha Duggan Capps and Dewey Capps; and her father, Marlin Wood Ezzell.

Since 1999, Ms. Mozingo has lived in Mill Creek, Washington. She is survived by her husband of 47 years, Jack Mozingo, and their two beloved sons, Taylor Lindsey Mozingo and Griffin Wood Mozingo.

Her passion for women’s and equal rights will be remembered by those who knew her. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests contributions to the Women’s Foundation of Alabama ( or the LGBTQ Fund, an endowment of the Community Foundation of Greater Birmingham (
