The Covington County Emergency Management Agency has announced the potential for another hard freeze with the possibility of low temperatures at or below 20 degrees again Friday and Saturday nights across interior southeast Mississippi and portions of interior southwest and south central Alabama.
A Hard Freeze Watch is in effect for those areas on Friday night and will likely be upgraded to a Hard Freeze Warning later today or tonight. A hard freeze will again be likely over the same areas on Saturday night. Freezing temperatures will also be likely south of the watch area, but the lowest temperatures will range from the lower 20s to the lower 30s, which is above the EMA’s hard freeze criteria.
WHAT: HARD FREEZE WATCH for temperatures in the 17 to 20-degree range.
WHEN: Friday night and early Saturday morning.
WHERE: Interior southeast Mississippi and portions of interior southwest and south central Alabama
CONFIDENCE: Medium to high confidence.
Exposed pipes and unprotected outdoor plumbing can burst in these types of weather conditions. Be prepared by taking these steps:
- Ensure exposed pipes and unprotected outdoor plumbing are adequately insulated.
- Drain in-ground sprinkler systems.
- Provide pets and livestock a warm shelter and fresh (non-frozen) water.
