Anne Christine Morris Christensen, beloved wife, mother, sister, scholar, and advocate, passed away on Jan. 29, 2024. A funeral Mass will be on Saturday, Feb. 3, 1 p.m., at St. Martin of Tours Catholic Church, Troy, Alabama, with visitation one hour prior in the Parish Hall. Father Den Irwin and Father Chris Boutin will officiate. Burial will follow at St. Margaret’s Cemetery in Montgomery.
Anne was born in Mount Pleasant, Michigan, on April 21, 1960, to James and Nancy Morris. She earned a bachelor of arts degree in English at the University of Dallas, a master of arts degree in English at Rice University, was a Dante scholar, and did graduate work at the University of Notre Dame. She married Mark Christensen in January 1988. They lived in Copenhagen, Denmark, Fortuna and San Francisco, California, and then moved to Andalusia, Alabama in 1994. She earned her Juris Doctor from the University of Alabama in 2008. As an attorney, she served as a vigorous advocate for her clients.
Anne was known as a woman of innumerable hobbies and skills, including quilting, sewing, knitting, drawing, singing, mosaic, painting, home renovation, cooking, baking, cake decorating, hosting, and writing. Her artwork can be seen at Christ the King Catholic Church in Andalusia (mosaic painting in the side chapel), Our Lady Queen of Mercy Catholic Church in Montgomery (mosaic painting behind the tabernacle), and St. Martin of Tours Catholic Church in Troy (mosaic behind the tabernacle). She was a faithful Catholic who held deep conviction and reverence for the liturgy. She was extremely insightful and industrious and continually strove to beautify the world around her.
In 2022, Anne was diagnosed with ALS (Lou Gehrig’s disease), but never lost her sense of humor. She also continued with her work as a lawyer and her hobbies as long as she was able.
Anne was preceded in death by her parents, Nancy and James Morris, and her mother-in-law Myra Christensen. She is survived by her husband of 36 years, Mark J. Christensen; her children John Christensen, Christina Wagner (Anthony), Elisabeth Christensen, Katrine Christensen; grandsons, Damien Wagner, Felix Wagner; brothers Patrick Morris, Michael Morris (Teresa), John Morris (Sondra), Joseph Morris (Carole); sister, Mary Jane Hochderffer (Gregg); sisters-in-law, Tammy Morris, Caroline Schoneweis (Russ), Gretchen Smith (Stan); brother-in-law Paul Christensen (Becky); as well as many nieces and nephews.
Flowers may be sent to Green Hills Funeral Home, Troy, Alabama, or memorials may be made to St. Martin of Tours Catholic Church in Troy or to ALS Association. The staff of Green Hills Funeral Home is honored to serve the Christensen family. May she rest in peace, O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon her.
