A Covington County jail inmate was found dead Saturday morning, according to the Covington County Sheriff’s Office.

Sheriff Blake Turman said in a statement that Justin Blackmon, 34, of Andalusia was found deceased at approximately 1:30 a.m. Early reports indicate that the cause of Blackmon’s death was self inflicted, according to officials.

The CCSO has requested the case be investigated by the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency Bureau of Investigation. ALEA confirmed in a press release that it has launched its investigation. An autopsy will be performed by the Alabama Department of Forensic Sciences.

ALEA stated that no further information will be released at this and that once the investigation is complete the findings will be turned over to the Covington County District Attorney’s Office.
