The Alabama Department of Transportation is advising motorists that a resurfacing project on SR-55 in Covington County from the Butler County line to US-84 in River Falls, begins Monday, Feb. 5, weather permitting.
The resurfacing project will also include guardrail installation.
In addition to the resurfacing project, the contractor will also be installing centerline scoring on SR-55 for approximately eight miles beginning at the Conecuh County line.
Lane closures and reduced speed limits are expected throughout the project and motorists should plan accordingly and to be mindful of the people and equipment in the work zone.
The approximately $10.9 million project was awarded to Wiregrass Construction Company, Inc., out of Dothan, who had the lowest bid that met the project requirements. The project is expected to be completed in the spring of 2025.
