Ouida Faye Cobb, 90, formerly of Marfa, Texas, died peacefully in the company of her husband and daughter at 2:49 p.m. Friday, Jan. 26, 2024, at Peabody Retirement Community in North Manchester, Indiana where she has resided since 2017.

Born on Jan. 11, 1934, in Burnt Corn, Conecuh County, Alabama, she was a daughter of the late Albert Jinx and Hattie (Powell) Crawford. She completed her formal education in 1965 with her GED in El Paso, Texas.

On Oct. 10, 1953, she married Farrell Graham Cobb. They made their home in Niagara Falls, New York, until her husband began his military service at Fort Bliss in El Paso, Texas. In 1971, they moved to Marfa where they together managed the local general store, Winn’s, and in 2007, retired to San Angelo, Texas. In 2015, they moved to Interlaken, New York, and finally in 2017, to North Manchester.

In addition to being a wonderful wife and loving mother, she worked as the manager for the Winn’s Department Store and then managed the Thunderbird Hotel and Restaurant in Marfa.

Throughout her life, she had the gift of mercy, helping others however possible. She loved and cared for children and the elderly. She was an accomplished seamstress and chocolate chip cookie maker, creative in repurposing old things, and she passed these skills on to her daughters.

Surviving are are husband, Farrell Cobb of North Manchester; daughters, Lisa (Jeffery) O’Dell of Columbia City and Joan Cobb of Midland, Texas; grandchildren, Eric (Evangelee) Garcia of Midland, Texas, Ronnie (Melissa) Garcia of Mesa, Arizona, Anthony Cobb of San Angelo, Texas, Jared O’Dell of Watkins Glen, New York, Samantha (Joseph) DiNardo, and Latorsha Sample, all of Virginia Beach, Virginia; great-grandchildren, Calvin, Aubrianna, Jaleen, Amri, Kiyra and E.J. Garcia, Kaleb Cobb, Ryder Kerr and John Paul and Benedict DiNardo.

Additionally, she was preceded in death by sisters, Leoma Powell, Laura Jean Waller, Nanive Thompson, Vitera Pynes, Lillian Mitchell, Dollie Sasser, and Nellie Cobb; and brothers, Aaron and Harold Crawford.

Visitation was held from 5 to 7 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 16th) at Smith and Sons Funeral Home in Columbia City.

The funeral service will be held Saturday, Feb. 17, 11 a.m., at the Peabody Retirement Community Chapel, 400 W 7th Street, North Manchester. A graveside service will be held Tuesday, Feb. 20, 2:30 p.m., at the New Providence Cemetery, 239 New Providence Church Lane in Evergreen, Alabama.
