Florala High School junior Rayshon Coleman was recently selected by PhD Hoops to represent the United States of America in an international basketball competition in Spain this summer.

Coleman will be on the roster for the 2024 Euro Youth B-ball Cup from June 10-18. The tournament will be held near Blanes, Spain, on the country’s northeast coast, approximately an hour’s drive from Barcelona.

“This is a once-in-a-lifetime chance and a great opportunity for me to work with some new people and visit another country but most importantly to play the game I love,” Coleman said. “I just want to thank Coach Rob Fry, Richie Schueler, and everyone who contributed to making this possible. I’m looking forward to playing and bringing home that gold medal.”

Out of a pool of applicants, Coleman was chosen for this tour based on his playing ability, character, and desire to be a part of this experience.

“This experience will help me with multiple things such as building chemistry with new guys and playing in a new and different atmosphere. I will have to make minor changes by adapting to everything around such as the food, culture, and the environment as a whole. This will be a great learning experience, and I’m really looking forward to it,” he said.

Coleman completed his junior basketball season and played in all 30 games for the Wildcats this year. He finished with an average of 20.2 points per game, 5.7 rebounds per game, 5.1 assists per game, and 2.0 steals per game. Coleman scored 605 points and shot 44 percent from the floor while helping lead Florala to a 20-10 record and a berth in the AHSAA South Regional semi-finals.

He is the son of Cheybrel and Bobby Coleman Jr.

The tournament is one of four competition tours for PhD Hoops this summer. Following the stop in Spain, other events will be held in Italy and Austria, France, and Barbados.
