The Angel of Hope for Covington County has established a scholarship that will award $1,500 to one senior from each of the six high schools in Covington County.

Andalusia, Opp, Florala, Pleasant Home, Red Level, and Straughn seniors are eligible for the scholarship with a total of $9,000 being awarded. Applications must be completed at https://forms.gle/nCCvWBqdCAKrb8Dx7 by Friday, April 26 at 3 p.m. Paper applications will not be accepted.

“The Angel of Hope for Covington County was formed in 2022 to erect an Angel of Hope and Memorial Garden in Andalusia. This monument will serve as a place of reflection and remembrance for grieving parents and others touched by the loss of a child of any age, bringing healing and hope to everyone. We are committed to supporting local students who have endured a personal loss or faced a crisis. The committee will consider the personal essay, academics, extra-curricular activities, work experience, and community service,” an Angel of Hope statement read.

Seniors must email a resume, a transcript, a letter of recommendation from a school employee, and a personal essay on the topic of finding healing and hope in the midst of adversity along with their completed application. A description or narration of the adverse situation, how you dealt with the issue, and how overcoming adversity will help you in the future may be included.

Completed applications should be sent to angelofhopefccscholarship@gmail.com with “YourLastName_AOHCC” in the subject line. Applications will not be considered complete without the submission of all of these items by the deadline. All questions should be sent to angelofhopefccscholarship@gmail.com.

Scholarships will be presented at each school’s awards day program. Winners and their parents will be invited to a reception at the Angel of Hope for Covington County statue in Andalusia’s Robinson Park.

Only students who are enrolled at Andalusia High School, Opp High School, Florala High School, Pleasant Home School, Red Level School, and Straughn High School are eligible.

The scholarship payment will be sent directly to the institution (community college, college, university) of the recipient’s choice. Angel of Hope for Covington County reserves the right to verify all information, including the date of high school graduation and school enrollment status with a high school official.

The committee asks that seniors do not use a school email but instead use one that can be used long term in order for board members to stay in touch in the future. All applications become the property of Angel of Hope for Covington County and will not be returned.

The Angel of Hope for Covington County committee is also offering the sale of memorial bricks and tiles to surround the Angel of Hope statue. Bricks are $125 and tiles are $325. Anyone interested in purchasing a brick or tile should call Sue Taylor at 334-488-1605.
