Lady Bobcats outlast G.W. Long in extra innings

It took nine innings, but Opp won its eighth straight game in comeback fashion with a 4-3 road win over G.W. Long in varsity softball action on Tuesday, March 12.

The Lady Bobcats pushed their season record to 11-1, while the Lady Rebels lost their third straight and fell to 3-4 on the year.

Kaylie Foster gave G.W. Long a 1-0 lead with an RBI double and scored Anna Free in the bottom of the second. Opp tied the game at 1-1 with a two-out rally in the top of the fourth. Addison Moseley was hit by a pitch as courtesy runner Elizabeth Kyser moved to second on a groundout. Kyser took third on a wild pitch and scored the tying run before Crislyn Birge was thrown out attempting to steal second.

The score remained in a 1-1 tie through seven innings. Both teams loaded the bases in the eighth inning but were held scoreless.

Jaidyn Ivey ripped a two-out RBI double in the visiting ninth and scored Rylie Kate Thrash with the go-ahead run. After Ivey stole third, Amaya Womack launched a two-run homer to center as the Lady Bobcats took a 4-1 lead. Ansley Watson cut the deficit to 4-3 with a two-run single for the Lady Rebels in the home half. Birge sealed the win when she caught a pop-up in foul territory.

In addition to Womack and Ivey, Reese Cauley, Bradleigh Lanier, and Taylor Adams each recorded a hit in the win.

Moseley allowed one unearned run on two hits with eight strikeouts in four innings. Cauley notched the win in relief and gave up one earned run on two hits with eight strikeouts in five innings.

Opp travels to Pike County (5-6) for an area game on Monday, March 18.
