Malon Wilson, age 71, passed away in Tuscaloosa on Sunday, May 26, 2024.

Andalusia native and 1971 graduate of Andalusia High School, he also was graduated from Lurleen B. Wallace Community College and the University of Alabama. Wilson officiated youth sports, basketball, and baseball. While in Tuscaloosa, he officiated in the Druid City Baseball Officials Association for 34 years and received a distinguished service award from the Alabama High School Athletic Association in 2012. He also officiated high school football and basketball for many years.

Wilson was coached in basketball at AHS by Clayton Bryant and at LBWCC by Jim Garner.

As a student at Andalusia High School, he was a proud member of the “Bulldog Marching Band” and at The University of Alabama, Wilson was a member of the drumline of “The Million Dollar Band.” While in college, he became employed with the U of A Building and Grounds Department which he continued as a career until his retirement. He was a contributor to his nephew’s ministry Pioneer61 in Mozambique, Africa.

His love for all things Alabama Crimson Tide and Tuscaloosa led to his never leaving T-Town.

Wilson was married for over 30 years to Carmen O’Quinn Wilson, a teacher in the Tuscaloosa County School system for over 40 years. Brother of Andalusia resident Jimmy Wilson (Sue), he had a niece and nephew, Wynne Wilson Glenn (Shannon) and Blaine Lee Wilson (Andrea); four great-nephews, Hampton Glenn (Alyssa), Steadman Glenn, Tucker Glenn, and Brunson Wilson.

Other survivors include his brother-in-law Leigh O’Quinn (Deborah), sister-in-law Tina O’Quinn Boyd (Billy) and three nephews, Nick Boyd (Marlene), Daniel Boyd (Brynn), and Derek O’Quinn (Lindsay), and great nieces and nephews, Praise Boyd, Emery Boyd, Rowan O’Quinn, Hayes Boyd, Raelynn O’Quinn, Ella Marie Boyd, and Hudson Boyd.

Wilson was preceded in death by parents, Harvey L. Wilson and Ruth Bowen Wilson, brother Larry D. Wilson, and his wife’s parents, Jack and Dorothy O’Quinn.

Funeral services will be held in Tuscaloosa at Memory Chapel Funeral Home, 2200 Skyland Blvd. East, on Friday, May 31, at 3 p.m. Visitation will begin at 2 p.m. A graveside service will be held in Andalusia at the River Falls Cemetery on Saturday, June 1, at 2 p.m. Foreman Funeral Home is directing. Pastor John Eiland will be officiating.

Pallbearers will be Tucker Glenn, Blaine Wilson, Brunson Wilson, Chet Thrash, Kenny Curry, Matt Kennedy, David Bowen, and Tommy Bowen. Honorary pallbearers are Dr. Rex Butler and Larry Sanders.
