Katie Howell was named Most Valuable Player of the tournament as she helped lead the Andalusia Lady Bulldogs to a tournament title Saturday.

Howell pitched every inning of three games as the Lady Bulldogs went undefeated in softball action to win the tournament.

In the first game of the tournament, Andalusia earned a 12-7 victory after falling behind 4-0 going into the bottom of the second inning.

The Lady Bulldogs scored three runs in the bottom of the second inning to get within one run of Samson. Elizabeth Smith started the rally with a single. Ashley Johnson followed Smith with another single. Lindsey Carr followed with a two-RBI triple. Kobe Smith came in as a courtesy runner for the Andalusia catcher and scored on a ground out by Heather Self.

Samson's Lady Tigers added a run in the top of the third for a 5-3 lead, but Andalusia answered with a run of its own in the bottom of the inning. Smith reached on a single in the bottom of the third and came around to score on a passed ball and an error.

The score remained 5-4 in Samson's favor until the bottom of the fifth inning.

The Lady Bulldogs scored five runs in the fifth to take a 9-55 lead.

Katie Tyler started the rally with a double and moved to third on a sacrifice bunt by Jodi Hanchey. Ashley Johnson followed with an RBI-single. Smith kept the rally going with a double and moved to third on a wild pitch that also allowed Johnson to score. Smith scored later in the inning on a passed ball.

Hannah Bush reached on a walk in the inning. Carr also reached on a walk and Smith came to run for her. Bush eventually scored on a sacrifice bunt by Self. Smith raced home on a passed ball for a 9-5 lead.

The Lady Bulldogs added three insurance runs in the bottom of the sixth inning when Hanchey, Johnson and Smith scored. Bush had an RBI-single in the inning and Carr had a sacrifice fly that plated a run.

Howell was the winning pitcher allowing seven runs (three earned) in seven innings on 10 hits and four walks. She struck out two.

In the second game of the tournament, the Lady Bulldogs went on top 5-1 in the bottom of the first inning and added four runs late for a 9-7 win.

Hanchey, Johnson, Smith, Bush and Smith (as a courtesy runner for Carr) all scored in the bottom of the first inning for a 5-1 lead. Smith had an RBI-single in the inning.

Smith scored again in the bottom of the fifth inning after Geneva had tied the score at 5-5 in the top of the inning.

Smith reached on a walk, moved to second on a passed ball and scored on an RBI-single by Kayla Brown.

The Lady Bulldogs added three runs in the bottom of the sixth inning for a 9-5 lead and held on for a 9-7 win.

Odom, Tyler, Hanchey and Smith each scored in the bottom of the sixth inning. Hanchey, Smith and Carr each had RBI-hits in the inning.

Howell was once again the winning pitcher. She allowed seven runs in seven innings on 12 hits and one walks. She struck out two.

In the final game of the tournament, the Lady Bulldogs wasted no time building a big lead en route to a 10-0 win in five innings.

The Lady Bulldogs scored eight runs in the top of the first inning when Tyler, Hanchey, Johnson, Smith, Bush, Brown, Self and Odom each scored. Smith had a three-RBI single in the inning. Hanchey had a two-RBI double in the frame.

The Lady Bulldogs added two runs in the top of the second when Smith and Bush scored. Carr had a sacrifice fly in the inning.

Howell was the winning pitcher going all five inning. She did not allow a run in the game and only surrendered four hits and one walk. She struck out one.

Howell now has a record of 6-3 and a 2.55 ERA.

Andalusia Assistant Coach Wayne Sasser said Howell was recognized as the MVP, but all of the Andalusia players performed at a high level at the tournament.

He said Smith, Bush, Johnson and Hanchey all hit the ball very well.

Smith was 6-for-9 at the tournament with four RBIs and scored nine runs. Bush was 3-for-7 and scored five runs. She reached base nine of the 11 times she came up to bat in the tournament.

Johnson was 3-for-9 in the tournament with three runs scored. Hanchey was 4-for-9 with three runs scored.

"Everybody played well," Sasser said. "We played good defense and we played with a

lot of enthusiasm."

The Lady Bulldogs are slated to return to action today when they travel to Brewton to play the T.R. Miller Lady Tigers.
