The Florala Habitat for Humanity project is now entering the “homestretch,” said chapter director Dale Pancake Thur-sday.

Volu-nteers will again be working this Saturday to put the finishing touches on the new home of Sherrie Stewart and her family, he said.

“The lights are on, and heating and cooling is in,” he said. “The inside painting is done, and this weekend, we’ve got a few projects to finish up.

“We’ve got several pallets of sod to put down, and then there’s painting the door frames and trim,” he said. “We’re also going to be assembling and installing ceiling fans, and we may even do some cabinet work. They’re there, just not assembled or hung.”

Pancake said work will begin at 8 a.m. and conclude at 4 p.m. Lunch is Dutch treat.

“This has been a great process,” he said. “Sherrie has been a great partner family, and we continue to look forward to a continued partnership with them once they get into the house.”

Pancake said once work is completed Saturday, organizers will have a better idea when a dedication ceremony can be held, and in turn, initiate the closing process on the property.

“It’s an exciting time, and we’re already looking ahead to start work on the next house as soon as we have the funds,” he said.

Previously, Pancake revealed the next build will be held in Andalusia. “We’re trying to get things lined up for that, but we’ve got to finish things in Florala first.

“We still need volunteers, donations and contributions,” he said.

Those wishing to volunteer must be 16 or older, and are asked to “just show up,” but anyone younger than 18 must have a release signed by a parent or legal guardian.
