FHS boys, girls win over Kinston

Florala’s varsity boys and girls picked up area wins over Kinston on Friday night at FHS.

The boys beat the Bulldogs in a close on 38-36, while the girls won 43-30.

Colt Jackson led the Wildcats with 13 points; Hunter Oswald had 10 points; and John Bess had nine points.

“Down the stretch, free throws were what got us the game,” FHS coach Daniel Allison said. “We were 9-of-16 in the fourth period. Free throws were huge for us.”

Florala’s Desmond Smiley hit three free throws to help lift the boys to the win.

At the end of the third period, the game was tied at 29-29.

The boys improve to 3-1 in Class 1A, Area 2.

In the girls game, the Lady Wildcats led 15-2 after the first period, and 25-11 at half time.

Florala’s Paige Irwin came back from an ankle injury and scored seven points. Mariah Thompson led the Lady ‘Cats with 13 points, and Keadra Avan chipped in 12 points.

The Lady Wildcats are now 2-2 in the area.

Florala will play host to Elba today, starting with the B-team at 4 p.m.
