Women from all across South Alabama and northwest Florida traveled to Blue Lake Tuesday for fellowship and a cooking class.

What’s Cookin’ at Blue Lake was held at Blue Lake Camp Jan. 26 and the 10 women who attended learned all about appetizers.

“This is a pretty involved class, so 10 was a good number, said Executive Director Phyllis Murray. “We normally have about 16 to 20 people attend.”

The class included devotion before the cooking began.

“We start off with a devotion,” Murray said. “We talked about what we’re excited about being this year.”

Murray said they cooked a wide array of appetizers ranging from tortilla salmon tort and shrimp avocado ceveche to goat cheese and olive toast to crispy French fries with lemon mayonnaise.

But the ladies learned to cook many more.

Overall, Murray said the purpose of the event is to let people know what’s new at the camp.

“It’s to keep people well informed about the camp,” she said.

For those who missed Tuesday’s program, there will be four more cooking events.

“We have four more, one Tuesday a month,” Murray said.

Murray said what’s exciting to her about this program is it’s not one that is limited to the grounds of Blue Lake Camp.

“This is a program that doesn’t have to be here. It can be at churches or anywhere else in the community,” she said.

Anyone can attend the event, but Murray said about two-thirds of the group are returning with women from Dothan, Panama City Beach, Ft. Walton Beach, Laurel Hill and Andalusia.

“It’s one of those things people can invited friends to,” Murray said. “And it’s not something you have to be at every session.”

The next session will be Feb. 23 and it will feature chocolate.

“We decided to let it follow of weekend Chocolate Boutique,” Murray said.

Chocolate Boutique will be held Feb. 19-20.

“You’ll grow closer to friends, deepen your relationship with Jesus and be pampered as well,” Murray said. “Together we’ll experience meaningful devotions, chocolaty activities and lots of rejuvenating fun.”

The weekend will begin with dinner Feb. 19 and will finish the afternoon of Feb. 20.

The weekend event will be held at Blue Lake Camp and the cost is $90 per person and includes three meals, activities and lodging.
