Lady Bulldogs sweep T.R. Miller

The T.R. Miller Lady Tigers arrived late and left early for their match against the Andalusia Lady Bulldogs on Thursday.

The Andalusia varsity, junior varsity and middle school teams all earned clean sweeps against the visiting Lady Tigers.

The match, scheduled for a 4 p.m. start, did not begin until about 5 p.m. with the middle school squads squaring off on center court.

In the first game of the match, the Lady Bulldogs from Andalusia Middle School sprinted out to a 3-0 lead behind quality serves by Morgen Battey.

Brewton Middle School failed to score before the Lady Bulldogs forced another sideout.

Deeanna Strong took over serving duties for the Lady Bulldogs. She was on target as the Lady Bulldogs stretched the lead to 8-0 before the Lady Tigers earned a sideout.

Once again, the Lady Tigers failed to score and the Lady Bulldogs added to their lead behind the serving of Aleeshia Staley. Brittany Fenton helped earning one point on a kill via a spike for an 11-0 lead.

Fenton ended up serving later in the match and recorded two aces to extend the lead to 13-0.

Mollie Frazier served an ace for a 14-0 lead and then served for game point. The Lady Bulldogs backed her for a 15-0 win.

In the second game, Brewton Middle School built an early lead going on top 4-0.

Andalusia managed to rally and tie the score at 5-5, but the Lady Tigers went back on top by a score of 8-5.

The Lady Bulldogs, however, rallied behind the serving of Frazier winning five consecutive points to take a 10-8 lead.

Andalusia went on to win the game 15-9 to win the match with Fenton once again serving for and earning game point.

The Andalusia High School junior varsity team took on their counterparts from Brewton next and topped the visiting T.R. Miller JV Lady Tigers 15-0 in the first game of the match.

Meghan Sasser had a strong game serving for five consecutive points in the game.

Hannah Bush also played well serving for nine consecutive points, including game point. Lauren Carroll helped keep Bush's run alive with a big kill during the run.

In the second game, Andalusia earned a 15-9 win after falling behind 8-5.

Carroll powered the Lady Bulldogs back into the lead serving for seven consecutive points, including two aces, for a 12-8 lead.

In the varsity match, the Lady Bulldogs did not take very long to warm up winning the first game 15-4.

In the second game, the Lady Bulldogs earned a 15-6 win with Mary Beth Wilkes serving for eight consecutive points.

All three Andalusia squads return to action on Monday, Sept. 23 when Elba comes to town. The first match is slated to begin at 4 p.m.

The junior varsity and varsity squads are also scheduled to play Thursday of next week when they host Laurel Hill. The first match is set to begin at 5 p.m.
