The Andalusia Youth Football League held its annual football camp Saturday at the Andalusia High School football stadium.

Fifty campers in all ages participated in the camp, and the AHS varsity football team helped run the camp.

“The camp went great,” AYFL president Troy Jones said. “(AHS) coach (Brian) Seymore and his boys did a really good job of teaching basic fundamentals.”

Special guests at the camp were Alabama linebacker and former AHS standout Nico Johnson, and Troy University assistant strength and conditioning football coach Zarah “Big Z” Yisrael.

Both Johnson and Yisrael spoke to the campers, signed autographs and took pictures.

Jones said the reception Johnson and Yisrael received from the campers was a sight to see.

“Big Z had a lot to tell them,” he said. “He’s much further along than Nico in his career.

“And there’s nothing like a hometown boy like Nico showing them his fist of national championship rings to motivate these boys to play hard.”

The AYFL has currently 100 football players signed up to play this year, and there will be four home games, Jones said.
