Seven members of Andalusia Isshinryu Karate attended the USYKA Summer Camp Sat., July 17, at Henry Horton State Park in Columbia, Tenn.

While there, the students met with instructors and fellow karate students from karate schools in a four-state area to work out and compete in showmanship and board breaking competitions.

The Andalusia students started the day at 6 a.m. with an hour-long workout session, followed by a team-building workshop and clinics.

The workshop and clinics were taught by different master instructors in a variety of different areas such as tournament forms, weapons, full-contact training, juijitsu and others. After a full day of training, participants moved to the conference center, where the showmanship and board breaking competition was held.

Andalusia competitors placed in the following board breaking divisions for their age and rank:

• Colin Marcum — first place, green belt.

• Alex Myrick — first place, green belt.

• Reese Burkhardt — fourth place, green belt.

• Allen Butler — fourth place, black belt.

• Dr. Rex Butler — second place, brown belt.

Instruction in Okinawan Isshinryu Karate is available for all ages at the USA Gym and Fitness Center. Classes are taught by Mark Rudd.
