Ward plays in Elite tourney

Andalusia High School sophomore Zachary Ward was chosen to play in the All-Star Elite Baseball Tournament Aug. 6-8 in Gulfport, Miss.

His team was composed of 12 South Alabama baseball players called Team Alabama.

During the weekend, the team participated in several skills competitions and games.

Ward came in third place in the home run derby, and at the end of the tournament, he was awarded a participation trophy.

In addition, Ward was given an award for a tie in the record of home runs he hit in a single game at the tournament.

Ward tied with former high school slugger Leon Landre, who played for Lousiana State University, and was drafted in the first round of the MLB draft.­­­

Ward plays on the AHS baseball team.
