Put on your Realtree, Mossy Oak, Sitka, Predator or Columbia and “load up” the family for the Covington Sportsman’s Expo next week at the Kiwanis Community Center.

The sportsman’s expo is being brought to Andalusia by Willows Outdoors LLC. The City of Andalusia is the “behind-the-scene” partner of the expo, bringing the event to the area, Andalusia’s grants coordinator Barabara Tyler said.

“It is fishing, hunting and camping for adults and children,” Tyler said about the expo. “There will be a lot of giveaways and prizes.”

More than 100 vendors will put their best outdoor gear on display in the Kiwanis Building during the event.

Additionally, there will be activities for children, seminars, archery and turkey calling contests, Tyler said.

The expo kicks off on Friday, and lasts until Sun., July 29.

From the start on Friday morning, there will be a hunter safety field day class from 8 to noon in the Kiwanis Building.

Vending will open shortly after the safety class on Friday, and seminars, demonstrations, door prize drawings and the Shane Owens Concert will conclude the first day’s activities for the expo. Straughn High School’s String Band will open for Owens.

On Saturday, vending will open at 9 a.m., with demonstrations, more drawings and seminars on the schedule.

In the middle of the day Saturday, Andalusia Mayor Earl Johnson will take his turn at the dunk tank from 1 p.m. until 2 p.m.

The dunk tank will also be available on Friday so you can dunk your favorite person, Tyler said.

“Project Miracle is hosting a dunk tank,” she said.

All proceeds will go to Project Miracle.

Cost is $1 per throw, or six throws for $5.

The turkey calling competition registration and judges meeting will be held from 4 p.m. until 5 p.m.

Then, the junior division turkey calling competition will be from 5 until 6; vending closes at 6; the friction division contest in the horse arena is from 6 p.m. until 7 p.m.; and the senior open contest is from 7 p.m. until 8 p.m.

Sunday’s activities start bright and early at 8:30 a.m. with First Baptist Church of Andalusia conducting a church service in the Kiwanis Building.

Vending opens at 9 a.m., and the final seminars, demonstrations and drawings will commence.

The expo wrap up and vendor closing is at 5 p.m. Sunday.

Tickets are available now. Three-day passes are $20, and are only available until Wednesday.

Children 10 and under get in free with a paid adult.

Passes are available for purchase at the Andalusia Public Library, Adult Activity Center, Andalusia City Hall 2nd floor P&D office and office 119.
