Winning for the seniors.

That’s the top of the order for the Opp Bobcats this week as they host Pike County in its final game of the season at Channel-Lee Stadium tomorrow night.

OHS head football coach Jack Whigham said he wishes the team had a playoff berth, but the focus this week has been solely on ending the season with a win.

“We want to try and send our seniors out on a positive note,” Whigham said. “We would much rather be in the playoffs.

“We have to now try and win the last home game of the season,” he said.

Pike County enters this week 3-6 and a “much improved” team from last year, Whigham said.

“Their coach has done a good job, especially with the younger kids,” he said. “Their kids look like they’re a lot tougher this year.”

Opp (5-4) lost to Straughn 21-7 last week, and was put out of the playoff hunt.

When asked what the mind set of the players is leading up to the game this week, Whigham said they weren’t happy.

“Certainly, we were disappointed that we didn’t make the playoffs,” he said. “It is what it is.”

Teams generally use the week after a big loss to prove it can dominate their opponents on the gridiron.

Whigham said he hopes that’s the case this week against the Bulldogs.

“We wish we can take last week back,” he said. “We didn’t play very well. This will be the last game some of these players will play. That’s what we’re trying to remind them of.”

Kick off in Opp tomorrow night is at 7.
