The Opp City Council voted Monday night to rezone the property at 1099 Florala Highway.

City Planner Don Childre said the change was necessary because it was not zoned correctly in 1992, the last time the city’s zoning was changed.

The property was rezoned to residential from business.

“The banks were refusing to finance and refinance homes because they were in a non-complying zone,” Childre said. “Most zoning ordinances say that if it isn’t in the right zone, and there is tragedy, the structure can’t be put back completely.
