Sarah Smith, 82, of Kinston, passed away on Sun., July 21, 2013, at her residence.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m., today, Tues., July 23, at Keahey Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Danny Bradshaw officiating and interment following at Marvin Chapel Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home one hour prior to services.

Survivors include her sons and daughter-in-law, Jerry and Lynne Smith of Opp and Ted Smith of Modesto, Calif.; daughter, Gale Smith of Kinston; sister and brother-in-law,

Sylvia and John Harrison of Dothan; grandchildren, Shane and Victoria Smith, Stephen Smith, Gamin and Todd Zacharias, Anthony Smith, Alexander Smith and Aislinn Smith; and great-grandchildren, Laura Smith, Zoe Zacharias, Galyn Zacharias and Ava Ju-Ju.

CHARLES REESE

KELLEY SR.

Charles Reece Kelley Sr., of Fort Walton Beach, Fla., passed away on July 21, 2013, in the comfort of his home with his wife, sons, daughters, in-laws and grandchildren at his side.

He suffered from the long-term effects of Parkinson’s disease. He was born prematurely on the family farm in the Harmony Community outside Andalusia on Oct. 6, 1927, to Walter B. and Alma Kelley. After graduating from Straughn High School in 1945, he joined the U.S. Air Force and served on bases from Mississippi, Georgia and Alaska to Germany, the Panama Canal Zone and North Africa. He served his country for 20 years before retiring and moving his family to Fort Walton Beach, Fla.

Following his military retirement, he began a second career that spanned more than 40 years when he joined his brother, Roy, as partner and became a successful local business owner of Kelley’s IGA.

During the next 20 years, he expanded the family business to five locations including the Village Market in Shalimar, Fla., and Kelley’s Supervalu Foods in Niceville, Fla., Crestview, Fla., Baker, Fla., and Freeport, Fla., while bringing his daughter and sons into the business. During this time, he was also active with the Fort Walton Beach, Fla., Kiwanis Club and has been a long-standing member of Shalimar United Methodist Church. He enjoyed traveling in his motor home and loved tailgating at Florida State football games. Later in life, he took up snow skiing and took several trips with his family.

He will be remembered by all those that knew him as a kind, loving and giving man that never met a stranger. He was always so very positive and kind and willing to listen to anyone that needed his help or guidance. He volunteered his time and money to assist many charitable groups with a particular fondness for Shalimar United Methodist Church.

He is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Sarah Elizabeth; son, Chuck Kelley and wife, Lori, of Fort Walton Beach, Fla.; daughter Pat Kelley of Shalimar, Fla.; son, Mike Kelley and wife, Leisha, of Fort Walton Beach, Fla.; daughter, Teresa Pattison and husband, Mark of Shalimar, Fla.; daughter, Kathy Maloney and husband, John, of Palm Harbor, Fla.; grandchildren, Ryan Kelley, Taylor Kelley, Kendall Kelley, Sam Maloney, Erin Maloney, Sydney Pattison, Matthew Pattison and Tanner Pattison; sister, Frances K. Hall; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Walter and Alma Kelley; brothers, Ernest J. Kelley, Ray Kelley and Roy J. Kelley; and sisters, Grace Kelley, Caudie K. Merritt, Lottie K. Lloyd and Euna K. Faulkner.

Visitation will be held at Emerald Coast Funeral Home in Fort Walton Beach, Fla., on Wed., July 24, from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. on Thurs., July 25, at Shalimar United Methodist Church with Dr. Larry Bryars officiating. The family will receive friends for a fellowship time in the Family Life Center immediately following the service. Committal services, with military honors, will be at Beal Memorial Cemetery immediately following the reception.

Honorary pallbearers will be Judge Erwin Fleet, Claude Royster, Raymond Whitehead, Dick Cannon, Joe McClain and Joe Nelson. Active pallbearers will be his grandsons, Ryan Kelley, Taylor Kelley, Sam Maloney and Matthew Pattison, and nephews, Steve Hall and David Hall.

MARCUS ‘DUKE’ RANDOLPH KYZAR

Marcus Randolph Kyzar, “Duke” to his golfing buddies, 90, of Andalusia, passed from our midst at his residence on Fri., July 19, 2013.

He was born on Oct. 4, 1922, in Goshen, to Dr. James Hugh and Clara Solomon Kyzar. He was preceded in death by his parents and older brothers, James Hugh Kyzar Jr. and Terril Franklin Kyzar.

A memorial service was held on Sunday, July 21, at Foreman Funeral Home Chapel, with the Rev. Timothy Trent officiating. Special music was provided by Jackie Covington.

He grew up in Andalusia and graduated in the class of 1940. Following graduation, he attended Auburn Polytechnic Institute (now Auburn University) majoring in pharmaceutical science.

World War II interrupted his studies in his second year, and, like so many others of his generation, he enlisted. He served with honor in the Army Air Corps as a pilot flying in the China-Burma-India Theater. Following the war, he completed his studies at API and was licensed to practice pharmacy.

He rejoined the Air Force in 1950 and served at many locations until his last deployment in Vietnam. He retired in 1967. He worked as a pharmacist in Andalusia until his retirement in 2012, two weeks before his 90th birthday.

Survivors include his wife, Mary Courson Kyzar of Andalusia; his daughter, Karen Kyzar of Daphne; his son and daughter-in-law; Marc and Virginia Kyzar of Jackson; two grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

He loved his family and friends, golf, flying and gardening. He was very patriotic and proud of his service to our country. He touched many lives and left a legacy of generosity, devotion, humor, and faith. He will be truly missed and lovingly remembered.
