MARVIN S. PRESTWOOD

Marvin S. Prestwood, 91, died Wed., July 24, 2013.

His memorial service will be held Sat., Aug.10, at 1 p.m., at Burlingame Church, 125 SW Miles St., Portland, OR 97219. A private interment was held at Williamette National Cemetery in Portland.

He was born in Greenville, Ala., to Marvin Sr. and Annette (Lewis) Prestwood and was the older of two siblings. His younger sister, Nanette (Prestwood) Blair, preceded him in death as did his wife of 65 years, Betty (Decker) Prestwood.

He is survived by his three children: Nancy (Ken) Martin, Laurie (Roger) Fosmark and James (Kathi) Prestwood, as well as nine grandchildren, Robert (Elisabeth) Moore, Preston (Sharon) Moore, Christopher (Jennifer) Moore, Justin (Michelle) Martin, Amanda (Diego) Martin, Brian (Melissa) Fosmark, Timothy Fosmark, James Prestwood Jr., and Calli Prestwood; seven great-grandchildren, Declan and Kellan Moore, Sheridan, Kenzie and Tamsin Moore, Colin Moore, and Alexis and Dylan Martin, Eva Horcajada, and Riley Fosmark.

He was reared in Greenville and Andalusia until he was 6 years old. His family moved west to Sacramento, Calif., and then to Portland, Ore., when he was 10. He attended Hosford Grade School and Washington High School in Portland. After graduating from high school, he went to Oregon State University (then Oregon State College) and studied electrical engineering.

He was an active member of Phi Sigma Kappa fraternity and ROTC. Following graduation, he entered the Army in March 1943. He completed basic training and Officer Candidate School on the east coast as well as an engineering class at Harvard. He was commissioned a second liutenant and was shipped overseas to Italy to serve in the 45th Division (Thunderbirds), 120th Combat Engineers. His service took him through Italy, France and Germany until the end of the war. He remained lifelong friends with a number of buddies from his unit.

He began his career at Portland General Electric in March 1946 with a starting salary of $188 per month, and retired there in 1982. He also remained active with the National Guard and Army Reserves until 1967 when he retired as a Liutenant colonel.

After he retired, he began a multi-year quest to visit every continent on earth. These travels took him to Europe, Africa, the Far East, and all points in between.

 

BETTY SUE PARRISH THREATT

Betty Sue Parrish Threatt, 66, of Andalusia, passed away Tues., Aug. 6, 2013, at her residence.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m., today, Fri., Aug., 9, from Foreman Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Ed Ganus officiating. Interment will follow in Andalusia Memorial Cemetery.

Survivors include her husband, Jimmy Threatt; her sons, Randy Taylor and Eddie Taylor; her daughters, Nelle (Wayne) Kyser and Sissy (Bubba) Dye; her brothers, Larry Parrish and Perry Parrish; all of Andalusia; her sisters, Ann Phillips of Andalusia and Faye Palmer of Prattville, eight grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by her daughter, Wendy Threatt Wood, and two brothers, Jerry Parrish and Terry Parrish.

Pallbearers will be her grandsons, Johnathon Williamson, Joe Kyser, Trae Bowen, Kody Taylor, Mason Wood and Eli Wood.

NOAH DANIEL MORRIS

Noah Daniel Morris, 7, of Andalusia, passed away Tues., August 6, 2013.

Funeral services will be at 10 a.m., today, Fri., Aug. 9, at First Assembly of God in Florala with Bro. Ray Bundy officiating. Interment will follow in Greenwood Cemetery.

Survivors include his mother, Jessica (Jesse) Davis of Andalusia; brother, Christian Wright of Brewton; step-brother, Jesse Davis of Andalusia; maternal grandmother, Loretta Sasser of Lockhart; paternal grandparents, Roda (Johnny) Wright of Brewton; aunts and uncles, Melissa (Michael) Bales of Texas, and Alicia (Justin) Olsen of Alaska, and Joshua Qualls of Lockhart; step-paternal grandmother, Brenda (Jake) Perry, step-paternal grandfather, Jimmy Davis both of Andalusia; step-paternal great-grandmother, Caroline Davis of Andalusia.
