EDNA R. AMMONS

Edna R. Ammons, 76, of Andalusia, passed away Wed., Aug. 14, 2013, at her residence.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m., Sat., Aug. 17, at Foreman Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Vernon Scott officiating and interment following in Old Bethesda Cemetery. Visitation will be tonight at 6 at Foreman Funeral Home.

Survivors include her son, George Ammons of Andalusia; her three daughters, Betty (Gary) Parsons of Greenville, Peggy (Earl) Hallford and Shirley Jackson; two sisters, Evelyn (Jerry) Hallford and Charlotte (Allen) Harrison; three brothers, Vance Griggs, Truman (Sue) Griggs and Carl (Earline) Griggs, all of Andalusia; seven grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.

GLADYS POSEY

Gladys Posey, 94, of Andalusia, passed away on Wed., Aug. 14, 2013, at her home in Andalusia.

She was born in 1918 to Elmer O. and Tisie Cook Hill in Crenshaw County. She was the widow of her husband of 61 years, William Crayton (Bill) Posey, who died in 2000.

She is survived by her two sons, Danny Ross (Barbara) Posey of Andalusia and Gary Martin (Brenda) Posey of Panama City, Fla., and three brothers, Bobby Hill of Andalusia, Lister “Elmo” Hill of Andalusia and Billy Hill of Brantley. She would perhaps be proudest to also be survived by eight grandsons and 10 great-grandchildren who loved their granny, benefited from her immense generosity, and craved her cooking which was among her passions.

Among her siblings, she outlived her sister and brothers, Grace Joyner, Joe Hill and Jack Hill.

Gladys and her husband Bill were also known for their spiritual strength and were equally generous to their various church families as well.

Those who mourn Gladys also celebrate her life, which was long and well lived and warmed in its twilight by a large family’s love and a spiritual peace through her devotion to God.

Her life will be remembered on Sat., Aug. 17, at 11 a.m., at Foreman Funeral Home, followed by burial in Andalusia Memorial Cemetery, where she will be laid to rest alongside her husband, Bill.

Visitation will be held at the funeral home one hour prior to the service.

Pallbearers will be her many grandsons, Steve Posey, Scott Posey, Marty Posey, Ryan Posey, Shannon Posey, Cory Posey, Clint Posey and Jody Posey.

Honorary pallbearers will be her great-grandsons.

Before her death, and in keeping with her generosity, Gladys requested that in lieu of flowers, remembrances be made to a faith-based charity of one’s choice.

The extended Posey family is also so very grateful to Ms. Felicia Cook, Ms. Margie Elmore, and Ms. Emogene Colvin, as their warm compassion as assisting caregivers will always be remembered by the family

 

JOHN ARMSTRONG

John Armstrong, 87, of Andalusia, passed away Thurs., Aug. 15, 2013, at his residence.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Sat., Aug. 17, at Keahey Funeral Home. Interment will follow in Fairmount Baptist Church with Keahey Funeral Home directing.

The family will receive friends from 9:30 a.m. until time of services.

Survivors include his wife of 64 years, Allie Bee Armstrong; daughters, Linda (Wayne) Mitchell and Peggy (Terry) Harrelson, all of Andalusia; grandchildren, Melissa (Anthony) Tomlin of Zephyrhills, Fla., Rix Curtis of Victoria, Texas, Nancy (Frankie) Dubose, Jessica (Robert) McCloskey, Nathan Mitchell, Wade Mitchell, Gary (Lisa) Musgrove, Donnie Price, Selena (Matthew) Hammett, Tari (Shon) McClung, Kelly (Mike) Sasser and Jeannie Price, all of Andalusia; great-grandchildren, Misty and Amber Burk, Brett Tomlin, Colby Curtis, J.D. Richburg, Katlin and Abby Hall, Mia, Lili and Kenzie McCloskey, Kellie Price, Jamie and Megan Musgrove, Emily, Bailey and Joseph Hammett, Sarah and Emma McClung, Brianna Bozeman and Remington, Dalton and Landon Sasser; and great-great-grandchild, Skylar Musgrove

Pallbearers will be Donnie Price, Wade Mitchell, Steven Wade, Donnie Smith and Kyle Smith.

LILLIE PERDUE HOWARD

Lillie Perdue Howard, born June 2, 1924, and died Aug. 7, 2013, was the first African American female registered to vote in Covington County.

She was an educator for nearly four decades in the Covington County and Pickens County school systems. She was active until her death in the Pickens County Retired Teachers Association. She was married to the late Roy Howard of Carrollton.

She is survived by sons, Larry Howard and Gary (Ladora) Howard; grandchildren, Breton, Royce, and Lauren Howard; sister-in-law, Adell Garrett and Rowena Perdue, brother-in-law, Warren Temple; and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives, former students and friends.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m., today, Fri., Aug. 16, at Pine Grove Baptist Church, located at 9004 Hwy 86 in Carrollton, with the Rev. Carlos Calhoun officiating. Interment will follow in the Pine Grove Memorial Garden Cemetery.
