Rain also brings rainbows

“Where there is rain, you can always find God’s rainbow.”

As I drove into Andalusia this past Saturday to watch my grandson (Garrett Lott, Mobile Bombers) play in the 2013 Babe Ruth World Series hosted by Covington County, the rain was steadily coming down as we have observed so many times during this season. Not knowing what to expect during my stay, I have to say, I was amazed by the organization, hospitality, and generosity that I felt during my three-day, two-night visit to Andalusia.

I know a lot of boys went home without the championship trophy but this community came together and made every one of the boys and their families feel like they were all champions. I just wish we could see more localities work intently together on a project such as I witnessed.

I have to throw out a few kudos where I personally saw them: Atkinson family: Toby, Janet, and Sarah (host family for Garrett Lott and Tyler Lowery), can’t say enough nice things about this family; Langley family: Joey, Jennifer, Meagan, Nathan, and (batboy) Brandon (host family for two Texas team players); ALL host families; ALL of the churches, hospitals, and other organizations that served lunch every day to these boys; LBW Community College; Andalusia High School; Hammett Holley Sports Complex in Red Level; Days Inn,(where my son Steven, wife Selena, daughter Faith Isler, and myself were lodging); First United Methodist Church of Andalusia; Burkes’ Outlet and Goody’s (shopping of course during rain!); David’s Catfish; Zaxby’s; Pizza Hut; Andalusia Country Club; and a special thanks to my cousin Molly and her husband Jimmy Fowler.

I am positive I left out plenty of names although the list would be way too long – but I can just say, if the visitors do not return, it won’t be because y’all didn’t put on a great show, rainbow and all! What a great town you have!
