Bulldogs trip Eagles, 33-7 Friday

Pleasant Home’s defense played its best game in more than a year, but the Eagles couldn’t get anything done on offense in a 33-7 region loss to Geneva County on Friday night.

PHS gave up two touchdowns on defense to trail 14-0 early.

The rest of Geneva County’s TDs came on special teams and two pick-sixes on its defense.

“It was a lot closer than the score indicated,” PHS head football coach Cody McCain said. “I’m proud of the defense. That was, overall, by far the best performance they’ve had in over a year.

“With the team that we were playing and their talent level, our defense played great all night,” he said.

The Eagles fell behind 20-0 at halftime.

Jon Cole Chesser scored Pleasant Home’s only TD of the night on a 9-yard scamper.

PHS travels to Brantley next week in region action.

Wildcats give up big plays, fall 26-0

Kinston came up with four big plays against Florala in a 26-0 shutout Friday night at Mathews Stadium.

The Wildcats gave a great effort, playing as hard as they have in three years, FHS head football coach Bubba Nall said.

“Our kids played hard and their kids played hard,” Nall said. “It’s about what I had expected. I hate it for our kids, but we just came up short.

“Kinston has a good football team,” he said.

Nall said the Bulldogs scored after the Wildcats got called on a pass interference play on a fourth-and-14 play to give the first half its only TD as the Bulldogs led 6-0 at the break.

In the third, KHS threw a 30-yard TD pass, and Florala fumbled the ball, where the Bulldogs picked it up and ran it back 55 yards for a score.

“We’ve got to lick our wounds and come back next week and play a good McKenzie team,” Nall said.

The Wildcats fall to 4-3 overall, and 2-3 in Class 1A, Region 2.
