Andalusia’s pressure was just too much for the young and inexperience Opp Lady Bobcats on Friday as the Lady Bulldogs pulled out a 39-20 victory at home.

For some time, the Lady Bulldogs have been working hard on establishing a press game on the court, AHS coach Brad Garner said.

“I felt like this was the first game that we really benefited from it that much,” Garner said.

It was a slow start for both teams, but AHS surged to a 9-0 lead with 3:38 left in the first period. The Lady Bulldogs led 13-2 going into the second.

Andalusia only increased its lead even more after Laticia Crittenden got a put back to put the Lady Bulldogs ahead 19-2 with 5:59 left in the first half.

Opp’s Tori Reisnour and Hope Ladson got layups, along with a free throw as the Lady Bobcats trailed 21-7 at the break.

OHS coach Brian Dickerson said it wasn’t the Lady Bobcats’ best game.

“We’ve hit a spot right now where we’ve got to continue to grow and get better as a team before area play starts,” Dickerson said. “That’s the most important thing right now.”

Andalusia outscored Opp 8-5 in the third period, and 11-8 in the fourth.

Crittenden led AHS with 14 points. Shay Thomas chipped in seven points and eight steals. Alexis Lawrence had eight points.

Reisnour led OHS with six points.

“As our players started recognizing an advantage and getting them out of sync, we started tightening down on our own,” Garner said.

Shandricka Thompkins grabbed eight rebounds for AHS in the win.
