Covington County, Opp and Andalusia schools have cancelled classes for Thursday, as has LBW Community College.

Streets and roads are not expected to be reopened before noon Thursday, Mayor Earl Johnson said late Wednesday afternoon.

“And that’s if it warms up and the ice melts,” he said.

And that’s why school won’t be in session, Andalusia Superintendent Ted Watson said, shortly after school was cancelled for Thursday.

“The roads won’t be open before 10,” he said. “There’s just no way to get students there safely.”

Earlier this week, Watson said students won’t have to make up any of the three days they have missed this week because the governor declared a state of emergency.
