Growing up on a farm in Kansas we often had many adventures to which we embarked. My older sister and I designed and built many a raft to float on our grandparents’ pond.  We spent many an hour gathering wood and bindings to build magnificent ships.  Whenever the need arose, which it often did, of finding a captain for our floating creations, our little brother was always a willing participant. Needless to say, no matter how hard we tried, we could never create a raft that would float successfully.  You would think that after our many attempts, we would become more proficient at remedying our need for our little brother to stay afloat.  He was always a good captain, however, going down bravely with every ship, usually with a grin on his face.

Today, many are worried about the future. Many have questions for everyday and no matter where they turn or who they ask, the answers are usually evasive in nature.  The answers they seek aren’t given.  If that is you, there is one place where you or anyone can find peace and security.  The answers are always given in love and the advice is sure to keep anyone who questions from a lot of pain and misery.

”Thy word is a lamp unto my feet and a light unto my path.” recorded King David in Psalm 119:105.  David was a man known as being after God’s own heart.  Think of the mistakes David made.  Sometimes his choices were clearly made without a consult from God or from the answers he could have found in the scriptures.  Oh, had David relied more fully on God and allowed His Holy Word to truly guide his feet and light his path, what misery he could have avoided.

Timothy recorded in the book of 2 Timothy 3:16, “All scripture is given by inspiration of God and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness.” He goes on to write that scripture can thoroughly furnish the man of God.  Paul wanted Timothy to know that in scripture are the answers for many questions of life and to be thoroughly furnished.  Like Paul and Timothy, we get our doctrine from the scriptures, if reproofs are needed the basis is from the scriptures, if correction is needed the principles are based from the scriptures, our instruction as Christians comes from scripture, and as Paul wrote, all scripture, he said is by the inspiration of God.

There is one more way we can find stability and answers to give us peace from scripture.  Notice what we read in Daniel 12:4, “But thou, O Daniel, shut up the words, and seal the book, even to the time of the end.”  Why do we find prophesy in scripture?  Why do many today desire to understand the prophetic books found in scripture?

As children we tried really hard to build something that would float in the pond, in calm waters as well as turbulent if it happened to be in flash flood stage.  No matter how hard we tried we couldn’t produce lasting results.  Life has a way of making us feel insecure, unknowing which way to turn, what direction to take, what decision must be made.   Paul once commended the Bereans, as found in Acts 17:11, because they searched the scriptures daily.  They were studying to see if Paul was preaching the truth.  Do his teachings measure up to what is found in scripture? Like the Bereans of long ago, you too, can find answers that bring stability; you will find answers that give lasting peace and exceeding joy, no matter what may come your way.  Search the scriptures today, believe it, trust God, and see what God will do for you.  If you don’t have a copy, find a church, talk to the pastor, I know they will be happy to get you one and help you in any way they can.
