Gantt leads SHS to win over Brantley

Straughn’s Derriunna Gantt kept her no-walk streak alive Monday night to help lead the Lady Tigers to a 10-0 victory over Brantley.

Gantt struck out three and allowed no runs on four hits in six innings of work. The sophomore’s pitching performance last night came 48 hours after Straughn’s 3-2 victory over BHS in the Kirsten L. Dean Memorial Softball Tournament Championship.

For the day on Saturday, Gantt didn’t walk a batter. Additionally, the winning pitcher faced faced the minimum during four of the six innings in the win.

Katelyn Kinsaul and Kristen Peavy led SHS at the plate by going 2-for-4 with a double each. Peavy had two RBIs and Kinsaul one. Paige Taylor went 1-for-4 with a single and an RBI.

In 29 plate appearances, Straughn scattered 14 hits, which was right at .500 for the team, Lady Tigers coach Kenny Skipper said.

On one such hit, Gantt came through in the top of the sixth on a three-run home run to put SHS way out of reach.

“She’s seeing it well,” Skipper said.

The Lady Tigers scored four runs in the third on Taylor, Kinsaul and Peavy hits; and one run in the fifth.
