Joey Hattaway

Joey Hattaway, 47, of Opp died Mon., May 5, in an Andalusia hospital.

Hattaway worked at Opp Micolas Mills after serving in the U.S. Navy.

He is survived by his son, Douglas Hattaway; daughter, Delana Hattaway; parents, Bobby Joe and Delores Hattaway; sisters, DeAnna Ferguson and Denise Clark; brothers-in-law, Keith Ferguson and Bobby Clark; nephews, Thomas Weed and Hunter Clark; and niece, Kate Ferguson.

A memorial service will be held Sat., May 17, at 2 p.m. at Westview Assembly of God Church, 106 Grover St.,Opp, with the Rev. Phillip Rayburn officiating.

 

Richard “Rusty” Harmon Walker

Richard “Rusty” Harmon Walker, age 42, of Andalusia passed away on Wed., May 7, 2014, in Escambia County. Funeral services will be held today, Sat., May 10, 2014, at 2 p.m. from Andalusia Church of God with the Rev. Glenn Vaughn, the Rev. Frankie McVay, Charlie Walker, and Sonny Harmon officiating. Interment will follow in the Andalusia Memorial Cemetery.

Mr. Walker is survived by his wife, Amy Walker of Andalusia; his four sons, Jake Walker, Christian Walker, Houston Walker, and Braxton Bozeman, all of Andalusia; his two daughters, Savannah Walker and Alyssa Bozeman, both of Andalusia; his mother, Deborah Walker of Panama City Beach; a brother, Charlie Walker of Panama City Beach; a sister and brother-in-law, Jennie (Patrick) Bruce of Auburn; a maternal grandmother, Esther Harmon of Panama City Beach; a father and mother-in-law, the Rev. Glenn and Louise Vaughn of Andalusia; and a brother and sister-in-law, Shane and Sandra Vaughn of Andalusia.

Pallbearers include Shane Vaughn, Timmy Stacks, Shannon Bryant, Russell McGlamory, Patrick Bruce, and Larry Brown. Honorary pallbearers include Ethan Dorsey, John Dalrimple, Tim Grimes, and Russell Messick.

Donald Broughton “Don” Gantt, Jr.

Mr. Donald Broughton “Don” Gantt, Jr., age 75, of Gantt passed away on Wed., May 7, 2014, at the Noland Hospital in Dothan.

Funeral services will be held today, Sat., May 10, 2014, at 11 a.m. from the Foreman Funeral Home chapel with the Rev. John Eiland officiating. Interment will follow in the Andalusia Memorial Cemetery.

Mr. Gantt was born Nov. 18, 1938, in Andalusia. He is the son of the late Donald Broughton Gantt, Sr., and Aldine Wood Gantt of Gantt. He was a member of the Bethany Baptist Church. Mr. Gantt is survived by his wife of 47 years, Barbara Neese Gantt of Gantt; daughter, Donna (John) Shipp of Red Level; son, Donald Broughton (Taylor) Gantt III of Gantt; brother, Robert Joseph (Sally) Gantt of Thomasville, Ga.; granddaughters, Ansley Nicole Shipp and Maecy Cayne Shipp of Red Level; grandsons, Benjamin Broughton Gantt and Kristian Liam Gantt of Gantt; nephews, Robert Jeffery (Barbara) Gantt of Thomasville, Ga., Dennis Joseph (Phyllis) Gantt of Thomasville, Ga., Keith Ashley (Michelle) Gantt of Woodstock, Ga., and William Todd (Tonya) Ballard of Wetumpka; nieces, Deborah Sue (Scott) Dearmon of Mobile, Cynthia Renee (Roger) Smith of Mobile, and Wendy Ballard of Sullivan’s Island, S.C.; and sisters-in-law, Patricia Ballard of Montgomery and Linda (Jerry) Hutcheson of Mobile.

JAMES ARTHUR WILSON JR.

James Arthur Wilson, Jr. M.D., 70, passed away suddenly, just after midnight, Mon., May 5, 2014. Wilson was born on March 13, 1944. He graduated from Andalusia High School in 1962, from Auburn University in 1967 and from the University of Alabama at Birmingham Medical School in 1971. Wilson received his post-graduate medical training at the University of South Florida in 1972. He had a long and distinguished career at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Tampa, Fla. He worked as an emergency room physician at that hospital upon completion of his internship at Tampa General Hospital and remained in that department until the time of his death.

Wilson was certified by the National and Florida Boards of Medical Examiners and was also board certified by the American Board of Emergency Medicine. James was a member of the American Medical Association, the Hillsboro County Medical Association, the Florida Medical Association and the American Heart Association. He was certified, as an instructor in advanced cardiac life support, basic trauma life support and advanced trauma life support. He held teaching appointments in paramedic training with Hillsborough Community College and in advanced cardiac life support with the American Heart Association. Wilson had emergency medical services affiliations with Tampa Fire Rescue and Hillsborough County Emergency Medical Services.

He served as an active member of the National Disaster Committee and the Hillsborough County Medical Association Disaster Committee. He had an active role in developing and drilling the disaster plans for Hillsborough County. Wilson served on the Infectious Disease Committee, the Disaster Committee and the Trauma Audit Committee at St. Joseph’s Hospital. He also chaired the St. Joseph’s Hospital Disaster Committee. He was appointed by Hillsborough County for the Emergency Medical Planning Council and was assistant director for the Hillsborough County Peace-Time Mass Casualty Planning Board.

Wilson wrote, “Tampa Fire Rescue Standing Orders and Protocols,” as well as, “ St. Joseph’s Hospital Disaster Response Manual.” He was recognized by the City of Tampa in 1977 for his training of Tampa Fire Rescue Paramedics and received a commendation in 1979 from Tampa for serving as medical advisor for the Fire Rescue Division of the City of Tampa.

Wilson was an extremely generous and kind individual who loved his French bulldogs. He enjoyed golfing and was an avid Auburn football fan that followed the team each season. It was always easy to know if Wilson was on duty in the ER because he usually had the piped in music playing country hits, not your standard office music.

He is survived by his wife of 26 years, Mary; sister, Anne of San Antonio; his two children, Jennifer of Tampa and Jay of Atlanta; and his grandchildren, Paige, Courtney and James IV.
