It’s blueberry season and Jerry’s Blueberries, on Highway 137, is the site of a lot of hustle and bustle with people flocking to pick the berry treat.

Ginger Flick, sister of the late Jerry Barnes, who tends to the blueberries, said they are experiencing a record number of pickers this year.

The blueberry farm spans several acres and produces hundreds of gallons of the blueberry deliciousness.

“Offering a unique, farm-like experience to both locals and tourists alike, the blueberry bushes are open to pickers from dawn to dusk each day between Memorial Day and the end of July,” Flick said.

If yearning for a summertime treat isn’t enough to get you to pick blueberries, the story of the farm might be.

Proceeds from the sales go to benefit Flick’s son, Aaron Teel, who suffered a spinal cord injury in a hit-and-run car accident six years ago, resulting in paralysis.

Money made goes to help with his recovery efforts.

The farm is located at 9288 Alabama Highway 137.
