Local football teams begin fall football practice

The six local high school football teams got back to work Monday as it signified the start of the Alabama High School Athletic Association’s fall practice period.

Teams can participate in practice without pads for the first few days before donning full pads later this week for full contact drills.

Practice times have varied with one team or another.

Andalusia started practice at 3:30 p.m.; Straughn started at around 5:30 p.m.; Opp, Pleasant Home and Florala got early-morning starts; and Red Level began practice at 3 p.m.

At AHS, the Bulldogs began with position work, then transitioned to some individual and group work on its practice field.

Bulldogs head football coach Brian Seymore said the first day went well.

“I liked the tempo our guys started off with,” Seymore said. “We lost a little of our focus at the end of practice with it being two hours long.”

Seymore said everything is fixable.

“They had a good effort for the first practice,” he said.

Pictures from fall practice this week will be posted on The Star-News’ Facebook page.
