Andalusia 14U earns spot in district championship

Andalusia’s 14U All-Stars earned a spot in the district championship game with a 12-1 victory over Covington County Tuesday night at Andalusia High School.

 

 

 

Andalusia got on the scoreboard first in the top of second inning off five hits, two walks and one error.

 

 

 

Thomas Phillips led off the inning with a single followed by a single from Joseph Snider. Trevey Stoudemire then drove in Phillips with a single.

 

 

 

Noah Kelley made the score 3-0 after driving in Stoudemire on a fielder’s choice.

 

 

 

Following a walk to Jacob Cravey and a double from Jake Barefoot, Hogan Nichols drove in both with a double to make the score 5-0.

 

 

 

In the top of the third inning, the Andalusia squad struck for two more run. Stoudemire led off the inning with a single, and Sebaskin Stallworth drove him in with a single.

 

 

 

Nichols then drove in Cravey to give Andalusia a 7-0 lead.

 

 

 

In the bottom of the third, Chance Russell got on base with a single to kick off the inning, and Chandler Mitchell drove him in on fielder’s choice for the County’s lone run of the evening.

 

 

 

The County loaded the bases in the bottom of the fourth inning off a single and two errors, but were unable to push across a run.

 

 

 

Andalusia struck again in the top of fifth inning after Stallworth drew a lead-off walk followed by a single from Nichols, and Brennan Strong followed with a double that drove in Stallworth.

 

 

 

Phillips followed with a RBI single to give Andalusia a 9-1 advantage.

 

 

 

Jake Walker then hit a run scoring single followed by a fielder’s choice from Kelley to make the score 11-1.

 

 

 

Barefoot then drove in Kelley to give Andalusia a 12-1 lead.

 

 

 

In the bottom of the fifth, the County loaded the bases on two walks and a single, but Cravey fanned the final batter to give Andalusia a spot in the championship game.

 

 

 

Andalusia will face the winner between Covington County and Opp on Thursday. The Opp and Covington County game was not finished at the time the Star-News went to press.
