Covington County 10U softball begin state tournament tonight

Covington County’s 10U All-Star softball team earned a spot in the 2015 state tournament in Brewton after finishing runner-up in the sub-state tournament.

 

“We had good pitching all through the tournament,” Covington County coach Micah Garner said. “All the girls played hard, and it was a total team effort. We had a solid team effort both offensively and defensively. This group of girls has worked very hard, and we look forward to competing in the state tournament this week.”

 

In the first game of the sub-state tournament, the Covington County squad whipped Brewton 17-11.

 

Game two pitted Covington County against the Tri-County All-Stars, with Covington County prevailing 18-5. The win against Tri-County landed Covington County a spot in the championship game.

 

In the first championship game, Tri-County defeated Covington County 10-9 to force a second championship game.

 

Tri-County beat Covington County in the winner-take-all championship game, 14-11.

 

Covington County finished as runner-up in sub-state, and will open up with Alex City at 6 p.m. today in the pool play portion of the 2015 10U state tournament.

 

Covington County’s second game will be Friday at 9 a.m. against Brewton, and the final pool play game for Covington County will be at 1 p.m. Friday against Tri-County.

 

Pool play will determine seeding for the one-game elimination tournament that begins Saturday with the No. 1 seed and No. 4 seed at 9 a.m., and the No. 2 seed and No. 3 seed will also play at 9 a.m.

 

The 10U championship game is scheduled for 1 p.m. on Saturday.
