Model 1911 better than veggies

I write this letter on August 15, exactly 70 years after Japanese Emperor Hirohito released the Gyokuon-hōsō, publicly announcing that the Japanese Government had accepted the Potsdam Declaration demanding the unconditional surrender of the Japanese military at the end of World War II.

I find it laughable that a recent letter to the editor of the Andalusia Star-News encouraged that the way to stop the incessant violence in this country is for everyone to get a whistle to blow and a can of vegetables to throw at would-be criminals to keep everyone safe. I couldn’t make this stuff up if I tried. (See the commentary page on ASN’s August 15th newspaper entitled “Wanta (sic) be safe? Get yourself a whistle)

There may be some that advocate gun control and think that we should have not used “Little Boy/Hiroshima” and “Fat Man/Nagasaki” to end WWII. However, for the time being, I’ll continue to protect my personal safety with a weapon designed by John Browning and released 104 years ago, the Model 1911 Automatic Colt Pistol.
