The annual OppFest street festival will kick off tonight at 7 p.m.

The streets will shut down at 5 p.m.

“Vendors will set up at 5 p.m.,” said organizer Pam Potter. “Then we will have entertainment from 7 until 10.”

Potter said this is the first year that auditions were held for Friday night entertainment.

“We will have some local talent,” she said.

On Saturday, Taylor Weeks, Charlene Payne, E-Town, Ethan King and Charlotte Wyatt will perform.

Potter said arts and crafts vendors will line Main Street and Covington Avenue, there will be trackless rain and inflatables, and the LA Cruisers car show will be set up as usual.

PANCAKE BREAKFAST

Get yourself a big breakfast before heading out to Saturday’s downtown festivities.
Opp First United Methodist Church will hold its annual pancake breakfast.
The event will begin at 7 a.m. and continue until 10 a.m.
For $7, one can get a choice of sausage or bacon, pancakes and a beverage.
Tickets are available at the church office, Body Conscious and the Opp Chamber of Commerce.
Walk-ins are welcome.
All proceeds will go to fund the addition of heating and air conditioning at the church’s Grace Community Center gym.

“This is their 20th car show,” she said. “We still have plenty of spots left for arts and crafts vendors.”

Saturday’s events will be from 8 a.m. until 10 p.m.

Additionally, Potter said the citywide trick or treat will coincide with OppFest and will be from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m.

“We try to do that every year, but it’s the first time we’ve had it with OppFest,” she said.
