Gary Lynn Peek

Mr. Gary Lynn Peek, 59, originally of Dozier, passed away Mon., Feb. 1, 2016, at his residence in Flomaton. Mr. Peek graduated from Dozier High School, where he excelled as a member and leader of the football team. He then joined the family business, Peek Trucking, starting as a driver, later moving into full management, and eventually owning the company, which he ran successfully until his retirement.

A memorial service will be at 10 a.m. Sat., Feb. 6, 2016, at Foreman Funeral Home Chapel with Brother Pat Carden officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to services at the funeral home.

He is survived by his wife of 36 years, Edith Peek of Flomaton; sister and brother-in-law, Ellen and John Joyner of Dozier; brother, Warren Peek of Dozier; brother and sister-in-law, John M. and Barbara Peek of Andalusia; and numerous nieces and nephews.

His parents, Robert Gaston and Maryeve Peek, his brother, Robert Daniel Peek, and his great friend, Travis Duke, preceded him in death.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that contributions are made in Mr. Peek’s memory to the Methodist Men’s Ministry of Brewton.

Bessie Susan Ezell Daniel

Ms. Bessie Susan Ezell Daniel, 55, of Opp died Tues., Feb. 2, 2016, in the Opp Health and Rehab. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Fri., Feb. 5, 2016, from Wyatt Funeral Home Chapel with burial following in Andalusia Memorial Cemetery. The family will receive friends at Wyatt Funeral Home one hour prior to the service.

Ms. Daniel is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Jeffery Gantt and Kelly Amanda Daniel; sisters and brothers-in-law, Jean and Stan Bess, Shirley and Stuart Cohen and Diane and Jimmy Burditt; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, Thomas William Ezell and Dorothy Martin Hallford; and sister and brother-in-law, Katie and James Watts.

 

 

Jack Goolsby

Jack Goolsby, 84, passed away Jan. 29, 2016, following an extended illness.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 57 years, Marie Holley; parents, Claude Whitfield and Linnie Belle (Belcher) Goolsby; brother, C.W. Goolsby, Jr (Bubba), and sister, Robbie Lee Smith (Sis).

Mr Goolsby was born in the Damascus Community area in Florala. He graduated from Covington County High School, attended Auburn University and then returned to Florala, and was engaged in the agriculture business world for many years. In 1977 he became the Covington County Executive Director (CED) of the Farm Service Agency and served in that position until his retirement in 1996.

He was a life-long member of Hopewell Methodist Church and served as a church officer and a church trustee. He was also a long time member of the finance committee.

Over the years, he served in many positions in various organizations to include the Alabama Farm Bureau Federation, Alabama State Farm Service Agency Committee, Chattahoochee-Pea River Watershed Management Authority, and Florala Airport Authority. He served as director of the Bank of Florala, First National Bank of the South and the South Trust Bank.

In September, 2010 he married Norma Riley of Andalusia, who has been a devoted wife.

Survivors include his wife, Norma Riley Goolsby; son, Al Goolsby (Sara); granddaughter, Alison Stave (Brent); two grandsons, Matthew Goolsby (Audrey) and Cliff Goolsby; one great-grandson, Jackson Archer Goolsby; two nephews, Claude Whitfield Goolsby, III (Kaye) and William Clark Goolsby (Julie).

A memorial service will be held Sun., February 7, 2016, at 3 p.m. from Evans Funeral Home. Visitation will be one hour before the service.

Jeremiah Daniel Lewis

Jeremiah Daniel Lewis, age 31, of Florala passed away Jan. 30, 2016. He was born Dec. 31, 1984, in Opp to Clint Lewis and Brenda Adams. He graduated from Florala High School in 2003 and began working as a die caster in the automobile industry. Jeremiah was an avid hunter and fisherman and spent countless hours in the woods, fields, lakes and ponds of south Alabama. He loved Alabama football and its rich traditions and enjoyed sharing that love with family and friends. His biggest legacy, however was the immeasurable mark he left on his family. His sweet smile and loving ways will be truly missed. His faith in Jesus Christ sustained him as he faced many health issues. He was preceded in death by father, Clint Lewis.

He is survived by his wife, Christine Brown Lewis; son, Elijah Wilson Lewis; stepsons, Jayce and Jeffery Gumapas; mother, Brenda Adams, and stepfather, Don Davidson; sisters, Stephanie Bulger and husband Shannon, and Danah Lewis; brother, Clint Lewis Jr. and wife Jennifer; paternal grandmother, Nadine Lewis Kelley; maternal grandparents, Milford and Carolyn Adams. He is also survived by an abundance of extended loved ones including nieces, Hannah and Kaitlyn Bulger, Haley Lewis and Autumn Spicer; and nephews, Wyatt Lewis and Jaleb Spicer.

Funeral services were held Thurs., Feb. 4, 2016, from Evans Funeral home with Jonathan Shepard officiating. Interment will be in the Lewis Cemetery.
