Straughn’s varsity softball team picked up a big area victory over Headland, after topping the Lady Rams 5-4 at home.

Hayden Willis not only pitched well in the win, but delivered a run scoring double in the bottom of the eighth inning to give the Lady Tigers the win.

Headland took the a 2-0 lead in the opening frame, but the Lady Tigers clawed back with a sacrifice from Carolina Fussell to make the score 2-1 in the bottom of the second.

Kristen Peavey the knotted the game at 2-2 with a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the third.

Headland took a 4-2 lead in the top of the fifth inning, but once again the Lady Tigers clawed their way right back into the game.

Dallas Mackoff and Molly Stewart started off the bottom of the fifth with back-to-back singles, and Brentley Armstrong drove in Mackoff to make it 4-3. Stewart then tied the game after scoring on a passed ball.

In the bottom of the eighth, Armstrong drew a walk to start the inning and then moved to third on a double from Peavey.

Willis followed with a line-drive double to center that easily scored Armstrong for the game’s winning run.

Willis picked up the win with two hits, no runs and one strikeout in the victory.
