The Opp Bobcats won two games on Tuesday to finish 3-0 and clinch the title for the 2017 Butch Youmans Memorial Tournament in Opp.

NORTHVIEW 8

In the first game of the day for the Bobcats, they held off a late rally to knock off the Northview Cougars 9-8.

Northview grabbed the lead in the bottom of the first inning with timely hitting.

Two singles to start the inning and hit batter loaded the bases up for the Cougars with no outs.

The Cougars picked up two runs on ground outs and then went on top 3-0 with a RBI single.

In the top of the second inning, the Bobcats got a one-out single from Trey Moody, who then moved up to second on single from Talon Flowers.

Orlando Lacey then drove in the first Bobcat run with single to left field.

Following a strikeout, Greg House drove a single to right that brought around Lacey and Flowers to tie the game 3-3.

House reached after being hit by a pitch in top of the fifth inning and then gave the Bobcats the lead after scoring off of an error.

Flowers extended the lead a few batters later with a single through the right side of the infield.

Lacey and Hal Smithart followed with RBI singles to put the Bobcats on top 7-3.

Northview scratched through with one run in the bottom of the fifth inning.

The Bobcats got the run back in the top of the sixth inning when Kody Richburg scored off of an error.

In the top of the seventh inning, the Bobcats picked up a crucial run from the senior Lacey.

Lacey ripped a pitch over the head of the Cougars’ center fielder and sprinted his way around to third for a leadoff triple.

Three pitches later, Lacey hustled across home plate on passed ball to put the Bobcats on top 9-5.

The run from Lacey proved to be crucial as the Cougars picked up four runs in the bottom of the seventh.

After a two-out single made the score 9-8, the Cougar runner attempted to steal second, but Richburg fired to Lacey covering second for the final out of the game.

KINSTON 0

In the final game of the evening, the Bobcats clinched the tournament title with a 17-0 victory over the Kinston Bulldogs.

The Bobcats loaded the bases the bottom of the first inning when House, Flowers and Ethan Baker drew free passes to start the game.

Dalton Grider put the Bobats up 2-0 with a one-out single.

Opp got another run on a bases-loaded walk and were on top 5-0 at the end of the first inning.

The Bobcats added five more runs in the bottom of the second inning.

Spurlin Kelley delivered a RBI double to get things started in the second for the Bobcats.

In the bottom of the third inning, Cody Anderson drove in Kelley and then Grider scored off of an error to put the Bobcats on top 14-0.

Logan Ross punched a single to center field to put the Bobcats up 15-0 before the game was called by mercy rule.
