GIVING IT ALL THEY’VE GOT: Andy 10U All-Stars fall in district championship

The Andalusia 10U Dixie All-Stars finished second place at district after falling to Troy American in Tuesday night’s championship game in Luverne.

ANDALUSIA 8,

TROY NATIONAL 5

In the opening game of the tournament, Andalusia picked up an 8-5 win over Troy National.

The game was a pitcher’s duel for the first few innings before Asher Bentley and Neilex Ferrell came around to score in the bottom of the fourth inning.

Andalusia continued to hit the ball well in the bottom of the fifth inning as they plated six more runs.

Riley Cravey, Bryson Jones, Brayden Harper, Armani Justice, Grover Wells and Bentley came around to score in the bottom of the fifth inning to put Andalusia on top 8-0.

Troy got five runs in the top of the sixth inning, but Andalusia was able to hold on for the win.

TROY AMERICAN 6, ANDALUSIA 0

Andalusia came up against a strong Troy American team as they fell 6-0 in the second game of the tournament.

Troy American started the game with back-to-back singles.

Andalusia walked the next batter and then two-straight hits drove in a run to put Troy American up 3-0.

In the bottom of the first inning, Andalusia’s Keilan Davis drew a one-out walk and then he moved to third on single from Noah Curry.

Andalusia loaded the bases when Conner Ray reached, but Troy American struck out the next two batters to end the inning.

Troy American went up 4-0 with a run in the top of the second inning.

Troy American scored a run in the top of the third inning and a run in the top of the fourth inning to pull out the 6-0 win.

ANDALUSIA 22,

LUVERNE 2

In the first elimination game, Andalusia’s bats heated up as they torched Luverne 22-2.

Andalusia got a one-out hit from Davis to start the top of the first inning.

Davis moved to second when Ray was hit-by-a-pitch and then Cravey drove him in for the first run of the game.

Wells singled to start the top of the second inning and then moved to second when Jones drew a walk.

Andalusia loaded the bases when Landen Butler reached off of an error.

Justice drew a walk to score a run and then Bentley drove in a pair of runs with a single.

The bats from Andalusia stayed strong with Ferrell driving in a run with a single.

After Davis reached off of an error, Curry ripped a triple to put Andalusia up 9-1.

In the top of the third inning, Harper tripled to start the frame.

Wells then drove Harper in with a single.

Jones followed with a double and then Andalusia loaded the bases when Mack McIntyre reached.

Andalusia’s bats were scorching hot as they took a 22-1 lead in the top of the third inning.

Luverne got one run back, but Andalusia held on for the win to earn a spot in the championship game.

TROY AMERICAN 10, ANDALUSIA 1

In the championship game, Troy American picked up the title with a 10-1 win over Andalusia.

Troy American came out strong and picked up two quick runs in the top of the first inning.

Curry drew a two-out walk in the bottom of the first inning, but Andalusia couldn’t advance him from first.

In the top of the second inning, Troy American tacked on five more runs to go up 7-0.

Troy American added another run in the top of the third inning.

Andalusia got a single from Justice in the bottom of the fourth inning, but was called out at second on a fielder’s choice from Bentley.

In the bottom of the sixth inning, Harper got things started with a single.

Wells advanced Harper to third with a single and then Jones drove him in with a single.

However, Troy was able to hold on and pick up the 10-1 victory and the district championship.
