GARI CRAVEN LIDH

Gari Craven Lidh passed away Friday, August 24, after an extended illness. She leaves behind her husband of 57 years, Eric; four children (Scott, Kevin, Lisa and Todd); 10 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. She also is survived by her sister, Waunita, and her mother, Arline.

Gari was a licensed psychotherapist who practiced in Covington County and later in Pensacola, Fla. After she retired she became a designer/quiltmaker, a job she dearly loved.

No funeral services are planned, in honor of her wishes.

 

 

 

BELLAIRE BALLARD KRUDOP

Bellaire Ballard Krudop died on Fri., Aug. 24, as he lived, surrounded by treasured family members and good friends. Ballard, 69, is survived by his wife of 44 years and sweetheart since meeting as sophomores at Andalusia High School, Lynn Gantt Krudop.

Other survivors are his brother, Dr. James D. Krudop (Holly); his nieces, Dr. Ashley Krudop Powell (Kyle) and Dr. Hadyn Krudop Swecker (Bart); great-nieces, Francie Powell and Addie Powell; great-nephews Foster Powell, Clifton Swecker, and Oliver Swecker; and sister-in-law, Denise Krudop.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Bellaire and Sara Frances Krudop, and his younger brother, Richard French Krudop.

Ballard traveled the southeast for many years selling educational computer materials to school systems. After his early retirement he and Lynn took their love of travel and sense of service to Suriname, South America, as Peace Corps volunteers. Ballard was also part of the first stateside deployment of Peace Corps volunteers responding to he Hurricane Katrina disaster.

Although Ballard and Lynn traveled the world they always came home to Andalusia, yet the city of New Orleans remained their second favorite place. After many years they bought a second home in New Orleans just off a major parade route. And from there, holding court on a side porch in the shade of the crepe myrtles and citrus trees, Ballard became a neighborhood fixture, easily morphing into another New Orleans “character” in the best sense of the word. In no time he knew everyone by name, had heard their stories and was, of course, swapping tales with anyone who walked by his porch. Being a lifelong Auburn fan, the AU flag proudly flying at the Krudop home was always a great conversation starter.

About a year ago Ballard and Lynn built a small house on a heavily wooded site near Heath. Ballard enjoyed sitting on the back porch watching the fish jumping in the pond and the wildlife passing by. He may have seen such sights many times before, but he remained awed by what many others took for granted. He became a true “country” boy.

It has been said, that most people die with their music still locked inside them. Not so, Ballard. He created community around music, connecting other lovers and makers of music wherever he went. He was at his happiest singing or playing guitar. Most recently he was the “Blues Man” who played with musician friends in Heath until just a few months ago.

Interment will be private, but friends and family will gather in the near future to celebrate Ballard’s well-lived life. Those details will be announced later.

WILLIAM KEITH BULLARD

Mr. William Keith Bullard of Andalusia passed away Sat., Aug. 18, 2018, in a Dothan hospital. He was 47.

He is survived by his wife, Chrissy Bullard of Andalusia; two children, Kyle Padgett of Andalusia and Emily (M.J.) Faulkner of Andalusia; his mother, LaJuana Grief; his father, Bill Bullard; and his brother, Eric (Chara) Bullard of Elba. He is preceded in death by his stepfather, William Dale Grief.

Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m., Sun., Aug. 26, 2018, at Andalusia Memorial Gardens Cemetery.

MARY JOHNSON

Mrs. Mary Johnson, age 66, of Andalusia, passed away Wed., Aug. 22, 2018, at her residence. She was a member of St. Michael’s Anglican Church, and was very active in the First Baptist Church Bible Study for several years. She loved arts and crafts and quilting.

She is survived by her husband of 43 years, Lee Johnson of Andalusia; her two sons, Thomas (Laurie) Johnson of Birmingham and Jeffery Johnson of Knoxville, Tenn.; her two grandchildren, Laura Jane Johnson and Ryan O’Dell; and her brother, William (Ferra) Samuels of Gardner, KS.

She was preceded in death by her daughter, Laura Christine Johnson; her father, Henry Lee Payne; and her mother, Martha Corrine Samuels; her brothers, Patrick Earl Payne and Michael Lee Payne; and stepfather, Thomas Clayton Samuels.

Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m., today, Sat., Aug. 25, 2018, at Keahey Funeral Home Chapel with Fr. David McMillan and Fr. Oscar Seara officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to services – from 10 a.m., until 11 a.m., at Keahey Funeral Home.
