The Andalusia Bulldogs are hoping to be able to play on their remodeled field tonight as they host the Trinity Wildcats.

“Like any other week, you want to be better than you were a week before,” Andalusia head coach Trent Taylor said. “That’s whether you lost big like we did or if you had won big. You still want to see improvement.”

Games against big teams like Saraland will help the Bulldogs as they get into region play, Taylor said.

“We’re a football team just like every other team in our region that has got a pretty tremendous uphill battle,” Taylor said. “We’ve got a non-region game tonight and then here we go. We’ve got without a doubt the toughest region in 4A football. I think you can make an argument it’s the toughest at any level of football as far as balance, competitive and good the football teams are in our region. With that said, the one thing we learned last year is that you don’t have to win your region to get the ultimate prize.”

Taylor said the team is more focused on improving Andalusia than focusing on opponents at this time.

“For our football team right now, it’s not about Trinity,” Taylor said. “It’s not about anybody else on our schedule. It’s about Andalusia being better week two then we were week one. I want to be able to come in here late Friday night or early Saturday morning and look at film and say, ‘Wow! Look at the improvements we made in this end and that in.’ Whatever the case may be. As a coach that’s all you can ask for.”

For the Bulldogs, Taylor said expectations on dictated by who is on the schedule.

“I would like to think we’ve got to the point that regardless of who we are playing or what size school we are playing our expectations are to win,” Taylor said. “If not to win, then certainly to play at a high level. Well we didn’t do either won last Friday. That’s a reflection on me as far as not being where we needed to be. At the same time, our kids, the ones of character they need to be, they also fell like it’s a reflection on them. So they were embarrassed and I was embarrassed, not about the loss, but I think more that we wanted to make a better showing than what we did. The game of football is played once a week and so when something happens like last Friday night, you have to live with that for the next seven days until it’s time to play again. I think we are a football team that is very eager to get back onto the field.”

Andalusia holds a 5-1 record over Trinity.

The Bulldogs won last year’s contest 31-14 in Montgomery.

Andalusia and Trinity both enter the game seeking their first win of the season.

Andalusia lost to Saraland 41-3 in week one and Trinity fell to Alabama Christian 26-0.

A final inspection is scheduled for 10 a.m., today to determine if the game can be played in Andalusia. The Star-News will update information when it becomes available.
