Arthur Clair “Buddy” Brunson

Arthur Clair “Buddy” Brunson age 83, a resident of Andalusia, Alabama, and former longtime resident of Elba, passed away Wednesday, March 13, 2019, at Andalusia Health. Funeral services will be held at Hayes Funeral Home Chapel on Sunday, March 17, 2019, beginning at 3:30 p.m. with Dr. Kevin Wilburn officiating. Burial will follow in Evergreen Cemetery under the direction of Hayes Funeral Home. Visitation will be at Hayes Funeral Home on Sunday, March 17, 2019, from 2 p.m. to 3:30 p.m.

Mr. Brunson is survived by his wife of 60 years, Betty Johnson Brunson; son, Arthur C. “Art” Brunson, III, and daughter-in-law, Alane Brunson, of Andalusia; daughter, Suzi Brunson Maddox, and son-in-law, Keith Maddox, of Destin, Fla.; and his grandchildren, Blake Maddox of Delton, MI, Nicholas Brunson of Andalusia, Sydney Baumgartner of Andalusia, and Marlee Maddox of Destin, Fla.

He also leaves behind a sister, Vickie Brunson English of Decatur, Ala.; and two brothers, Winston (Dee) Brunson, of Enterprise, and Greg (Janet) Brunson of Elba.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Arthur C. “Bud” Brunson and Elizabeth Winston Brunson.

Buddy was an Elba High School graduate and later went on to study at Troy University. He retired from Kleinerts as production manager, with more than three decades of service. He served his country in the Alabama National Guard also for 10 years. Buddy will be remembered as a devoted husband, loving father, and doting grandfather. He had a contagious smile and personality which allowed him to never meet a stranger. He will be sorely missed by those who knew him.

JOHN DAVID SHAVER

Mr. John David Shaver, age 90, of Birmingham, Alabama, passed away Feb. 25, 2019, at Andalusia Health.

Mr. Shaver is survived by his nephews, Jimmy Pate, Todd Pate and Jeffery Sowell of Andalusia, and Wade Britton of West Virginia; nieces Diane Howell, Katie Howell Poole and Aimee Sowell of Andalusia, Tammi Pate Merrell of Dothan, Sue Harper, Gina McIntyre, Judi Ward, Mindy Ward, Missy Ward and Robbie Ward of Evergreen; a sister-in-law, Ila Britton of Birmingham, and numerous other relatives.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 72 years, Hazel Kelley Shaver on January 27, 2019; parents, William Thornton Shaver and Nellie Gibson Shaver of Brooklyn, Alabama; brother, William Bartley “Bo” Shaver of Andalusia; sisters, Voydell Shaver Pate and Louise Shaver Taylor of Andalusia.

A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m., Fri., March 15, 2019, at Andalusia Memorial Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to Fairfield Highlands Baptist Church 910 9th Street, Midfield, Ala. 35228.

GEORGE HARMON PROCTOR JR.

George Harmon Proctor, Jr., passed away on March 13, 2019, at Andalusia Health after a brief illness. He was born in Andalusia on July 8, 1939, and was preceded in death by his parents, George and Mary Proctor.

George is survived by one brother, Joe Proctor (Sandra) of Andalusia; one niece, Sharri Crim (Marshall) of Dothan; two nephews, Bryan Proctor (Jill) of Grand Forks, N.D., and Will Proctor (Terri) of Andalusia;  nine great-nieces and nephews, Crawford Crim, Margaret Crim, Grace Crim and Stuart Crim of Dothan; Dillon Proctor (Emily) and Julia Proctor of Grand Forks, N.D., William Jewell, Henry Proctor, and Massey Proctor of Andalusia; and a first cousin, Joan Bomar of Ft. Walton Beach, Fla.

George is a graduate of Andalusia High School. He received an undergraduate degree from Emory University and a master’s degree from Duke University.  After graduating from Duke, he taught history at Saratoga Springs High School in Saratoga Springs, N.Y., for 31 years. He returned to Andalusia in 1995, to care for his mother and father until they passed. While in Andalusia he has been an active member of St. Mary’s Episcopal Church and the Covington Historical Society.  He was a volunteer worker at both Meredith Miracles and the Three Notch Museum.

A memorial service will be held at St. Mary’s Episcopal Church on Sun., March 17, 2019, at 2:30 p.m., with Foreman Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

No flowers please, memorials may be made to St. Mary’s Episcopal Church, the Covington Historical Society, Meredith’s Miracles or the charity of your choice.
